Fügen is a traditional Austrian village through and through, and the Scol Sporthotel Zillertal fits in seamlessly – from its peaked roof and wrap-around balconies to the wood panelling, friendly service and top-notch food inside.

It also ticks off the classic facilities, so you can pick between swimming and sauna sessions in the wellness area, trying local tipples in the bar and getting competitive in the games room.

Time for bed? Each of the rooms here has a different look but they all stick to the alpine theme. And we definitely recommend going for one with a balcony to make the most of the fresh mountain air.

Last but not least, the hotel’s in a handy spot near the centre of the village and just a couple of minutes’ walk from the bus stop where you can catch a ride to the gondola.
