Overall, I wasn’t blown away. You get what you pay for in terms of decor and stuff but it’s not particularly swish. We liked the amenities for families - there’s a games room and spa which were both fine and the convenience was great. Pension Nordstern Summary

Formerly known as the Strass Garni, Pension Nordstern is tough to beat if location is your top priority. Walk a couple of minutes to get to all the action in the resort centre, and when it's time to hit the slopes, you've got the Penken gondola next door.

The hotel itself is a no-frills affair, so there’s not much in the way of extra facilities. You’ll tuck into a continental buffet each morning in the little breakfast room, and when it comes to evenings, you can step out and stroll to Mayrhofen's bars and restaurants in just a few minutes.

Rooms lean traditional, with lots of light-wood decor and patterns that give off a cosy vibe. And you'll get your own balcony too, so you can really make the most of the crisp mountain air.

"Shame about the food"

Overall, I wasn’t blown away. You get what you pay for in terms of decor and stuff but it’s not particularly swish. We liked the amenities for families - there’s a games room and spa which were both fine and the convenience was great. The downside was that the food wasn’t too good and we ended up eating out (which was fine because we were in the village but annoying that I had already paid for half board). There was a very limited choice overall and my daughter needs gluten free but they didn’t make much of an effort at all which was disappointing. I would probably stay in the hotel again but I wouldn’t pay for half board.
