The nearby draglift gives easy access to the Masto slopes on the east side of the mountain, although it’s easier to take the bus round to the main village for access to the ski school. This bus runs until the evening, so you can enjoy a bit of après ski and get some groceries before it gets really dark.
The Maston Aitio Cabins look the part, nestled among the pine trees, but are modern inside and finished to a very high standard. Set in a quiet location just outside the centre of Ruka - which is a 10-minute bus ride away - you’ll feel like you’re in a winter wonderland.
Right next to the cabins, there's a tow rope that's open from Christmas onwards. This connects to the main slopes on the east side of the mountain and means you’ve got ski-in, ski-out access to Ruka’s varied slopes.
All the cabins have a private sauna and wood fire in the living room to help keep you toasty on those icy Finnish nights. There’s free WiFi, satellite TV and a DVD/CD player to keep you entertained, while the fully-equipped kitchenette means making meals is a doddle.
Check-in time is at 6pm. However, if your transfer arrives before check-in time, you will be dropped off in Ruka's village centre. From here, you will need to take the free ski bus to your cabin for the designated check-in time. Check-out is at 12pm. If your transfer coach is scheduled after 12pm, you will need to make your own way to the village centre, via the free ski bus, in order to be collected.
The tow lift is only open from Christmas week onwards. The ski bus runs daily until early evening. After this, taxis are available to and from Ruka Village at a cost of approx €15 each way.
