Overview - hotel description - Hotel Les Grandes Rousses description

The Hotel Les Grand Rousses is conveniently located in a ski-in, ski-out position on the side of the slopes. This family-owned hotel prides itself on traditional hospitality and a great standard of service.

A couple of years ago, the hotel underwent extensive renovation, to offer new and luxurious rooms, restaurant and reception. The rooms and public spaces are bright and stylish, while sticking with a traditional Savoyard colour scheme or reds, browns and creams.

In need of a time-out to unwind and re-energise? Well, the 350m² Grandes Rousses SPA will melt away your stress in a sensory space decorated in warm colours and natural materials. As well as a hammam, sauna, ice fountain, sensorial shower and pool that's heared to a gorgeous 32ºC and equipped with hydromassage areas. The spa also has six treatment rooms including a suite for couples massages as well as a tearoom in the relaxation space. There will also be a pool equipped with different features such as a waterfall, and hydromassage jets.

After you've spoilt yourself rotten, get your gladrags on and enjoy a drink on twinkling terrace or in the hotel bar whilst looking out at the panoramic views over the Alpe D'Huez mountains and village centre.

Families - any extra notes for parents with children

Pepi Penguin Nursery and Beanie Bear Club is based in the Hotel Petit Prince , a 5-minute walk from the Hotel Les Grandes Rousses.

Children in Beanie Bear Club must be dropped off by 8.15am in order to make ski school. If you miss this deadline, childcare staff cannot take your children. You can choose to sign your children into our care at the ski school meet point, however this needs to be arranged in advance with our childcare staff.

Pepi Penguin Nursery (6 months - 4 years) is run by our UK-qualified childcare staff and held in a dedicated room equipped with games and toys. Outdoor play included (weather and parental consent permitting).

What's included:

  • Full day care from 8.30am to 5pm
  • 2-course hot lunch
  • Snacks and drinks throughout the day
  • A daily routine and activities report for your child
Activities vary daily. We'll find time for stories, singing, arts and crafts including painting and collage making, plus messy play in the sand tray and free play with age-relevant toys set out for the children to choose what they want to do.

We're also really keen to take in some fresh mountain air each day, so we aim to have an outdoor activity at least once a day – maybe snowy walks, a gondola ride or snow painting. And if your child is used to a sleep, we'll factor that in too.

Beanie Bear Club (4-8 years) provides plenty of fun-filled days as our childcare staff offer a combination of care and skiing, which includes 6 x AM ski lessons, pick-up and drop-off from ski lessons, lunch and afternoon care by Crystal staff in the dedicated Beanie Bear Club room.

What’s included:
  • Full day care from 8.30am to 5pm
  • 6 x AM ski lessons, ski school drop-offs and pick-ups*
  • Child skis, boots and helmet hire
  • 2-course hot lunch
  • Snacks and drinks throughout the day
* Lift passes aren't included as each child's needs are different. If and when your child feels confident enough to use the lifts, you'll need to buy a lift pass locally.

Activities vary daily – to include games, arts and crafts and storytime – and are often based around a theme.

We're also really keen to take in some fresh mountain air each day, so we aim to have an outdoor activity at least once a day – maybe bus bingo, snowman competitions or a treasure hunt.

Both Pepi Penguin Nursery and Beanie Bear Club operate for 6 days and must be pre-booked to guarantee a place. Evening clubs are also available to book in resort for an extra charge.

All our staff are UK-qualified, English-speaking and first-aid trained, and have had DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and reference checks. And we prioritise maintaining the correct adult:child ratios.

Please note, all childcare is an extra charge and must be pre-booked to guarantee a place. In some instances, childcare does not extend the full length of the ski season. Please contact the sales team for additional information.

With a transfer time of around 2 hours, Alpe d’Huez is very accessible from Grenoble airport. Established in 1936, it was the first resort in France to be installed with a fully operational ski lift. The resort lies in the Grandes Rousses Massif domain and it is partnered by the smaller mountain villages of Auris-en-Oisans, Villard Reculas, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany and La Garde, all of which are connected by a free transport system. The slopes are mainly south facing and as a result the area, known as “L’ile ...
Alpe d’Huez has had sun and snow galore since 1936. And with a whopping 52km of greens, this is an excellent place for beginners. The easiest skiing is above the village and Les Bergers and there are plenty of wide open runs underneath the DMC gondola, many being ‘beginners only’ so you can learn without too much traffic. If you’re feeling confident, try some of the blue runs coming down from the main mountain and the signal sector back into Alpe d’Huez. There is a really impressive selection of runs for ...
If you like live music, try the Underground in Vieil Alpe, which combines a pleasant atmosphere with bands playing most nights. Smithys tavern is a proven success in the neighbouring resort of Les Deux Alpes and the Smithy’s in Alpe D’Huez has drinks promotions and healthy portions of Tex-Mex to match. If you can’t bear to miss an important game whilst in France then The Sports Bar is the best spot to watch live sports. L’igloo is the place to go if you want to party late into the night. Alpe d’huez has a...
