Overview: hotel description: Falkensteiner Kronplatz, Riscone description

A member of the Leading Hotels Of The World, the Falkensteiner Kronplatz in Riscone is all suave design, bright open spaces and luxury living. If you’re a mountain lover who enjoys mixing activity with relaxation, then you’re in the right place.

The rooms are calm and classy rest spots, which come with stocked minibars and your own private balcony. There's the huge 1400m² Acquapura spa, where you'll find a yoga studio, Finnish sauna with fab views, two heated outdoor pools – one of them on the rooftop – and even a climbing wall. Follow up a spell here with a cocktail and a game of chess at the snazzy On The Rocks bar at the heart of the hotel.

The food, too, is everything you’d expect from a 5-star. The 7Summit Restaurant prides itself on fresh regional ingredients and fine-looking food, and you’ll get 4 courses with a choice of dishes each evening. Waking up, breakfast is its own banquet – so fill your plate and get slope-ready. When you’re all geared up, it’s only a 5-minute walk to the ski station, so you’ll be heading up the mountain in a gondola in no time.

It’s the largest of 3 resorts in the Pustertal valley, having around 3 times the ski area of neighbouring Speikboden and Klausberg. You’d be forgiven for being a little puzzled by these Austrian names – and understandably so, considering Kronplatz et al sit pretty comfortably within the Italian border. To clear this u...
The skiing is mostly concentrated on the Kronplatz mountain, great for nailing maximum piste-time without the hassle of travelling over to different regions. The beginners’ skiing is fantastic, with plenty of gentle and spacious pistes. An awesome set of blue runs include Plateau and Sonne at the summit and Miara, a lovely long training slope extending down to the main gondola at San Vigilio. The children’s Safety Park beside the Olang run has a medley of natural and manmade obstacles as well as room to pra...
