If you’re keeping an eye out for good-value self-catering ski accommodation, then the Cybele Apartments in Brides-les-Bains may be the one for you.

Just 300m from the charming resort centre, and only a short shuttle bus ride away from the Olympe Gondola, sits the seven-storey apartment building housing 132 recently renovated studios and apartments. Each one is spacious and simple, with laminate flooring, light-wood furnishings and WiFi. The dining, living and kitchen areas blur into one, encouraging a real social atmosphere, and some even have separate double bedrooms.

What’s more, there’s a well-stocked Spar supermarket just around the corner, so you don’t have to go far for a fresh loaf of bread.

If you fancy trying out some local cuisine, then there’s no need to go far – the Cybele has its own rustic and cosy restaurant to enjoy a meal or two in.

Elsewhere in the complex you’ll find an indoor swimming pool and whirlpool, a sauna (with one free session per week), a restaurant and a games room.

The petite, attractive village of Brides Les Bains sits just down from Meribel in the lovely Allues Valley. If you’d like to avoid the touristic nature of usual ski resorts and try somewhere more cultural then you’ll be happy to know that the village has stayed true to its roots with a very French look and feel. Natural thermal waters occurring in the valley resulted in the village becoming a hotspot for health and spa treatments since the early nineteenth century. There is an amazing Grand Spa to be found w...
With direct access into Meribel of the 3 Valleys, the world’s largest linked ski area needs little introduction. Careening pistes for all ages and abilities are available across this gigantic landscape. Beginners can practice in the ‘ZEN Zones’. The greens above Altiport are reachable straight from a nearby gondola once you arrive in Meribel, situated in a peaceful area for learning at a comfortable pace. Children and adults can find some excellent ski schools available to get going on learner-friendly sect...
There is a small selection of bars here but aprés ski is generally better suited to those who are happy to return back to base and unwind with a quiet sherry - don’t expect to find many booming après bars. However, since Brides Les Bains is lower down in the mountains, the drinks tend to be cheaper. Most noteworthy for an evening of entertainment is the local casino. Found within is the Blue Night club, open until late featuring karaoke and disco nights. Groups looking to quench their après thirst might c...

"Basic but hit the bill entirely"

We had a good week, the apartment was pretty basic but I was just staying here with my brother and we were looking for something simple and cheap so it was fine. I think there was a pull out bed but we basically used the bunk beds. If you’re worried about getting to the main ski area, this accommodation is really well located as the apartments are probably only a 5 minute walk to the Olympic gondola. We had no issues doing the walk with snowboards and if you leave early you can beat the shuttle bus and get the first lift without having to queue. Brides les Bains is such a small place that you’re only ever a few minutes from everything else. For self catering the Spar in the centre is very walkable – it’s between the gondola and the apartments so you can pop in to buy food on your way back.
