Overview - chalet description - Chalet Woodpecker description

Find your home away from home at one of our brand new chalets. Chalet Woodpecker, alongside its sister Chalet Nightingale, is making its grand debut in Winter 2018/19. Only 5 minutes’ away from the bustling centre of Alpe d’Huez, the chalet, sleeping up to 15 people, has the perfect balance of location, privacy and sociability.

Early birds will be happy to know that the chalet sits right beside a slope, too, so your ski day starts as soon as you step out the door. Beginners need not fear, either, as the Telecentre lift is only 3 minutes away.

Inside, delicate décor, light-wood panelling and pastoral furnishings make Chalet Woodpecker a calming, stylish and modern place to stay. Set across three floors, there are seven twin rooms – all with private bathrooms – and a large communal area with a long dining table and spacious corner sofa, ideal for spending evenings catching up as a group or snuggling down with a book. For an extra touch of luxury, on the lower-ground floor, you’ll find a hot tub and sauna.

Being taken care of by a chalet host also makes your holiday a lot easier, especially when it comes to food. Six days a week, you can tuck into hearty hot and cold breakfasts (and a cold platter on the seventh day), delicious cakes when you return from the slopes and home-cooked dinners in the evening. What’s more, wine is included with evening meals, as well as an after-dinner cheese board and a glass of port – basically, you won’t be going to bed hungry.

With a transfer time of around 2 hours, Alpe d’Huez is very accessible from Grenoble airport. Established in 1936, it was the first resort in France to be installed with a fully operational ski lift. The resort lies in the Grandes Rousses Massif domain and it is partnered by the smaller mountain villages of Auris-en-Oisans, Villard Reculas, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany and La Garde, all of which are connected by a free transport system. The slopes are mainly south facing and as a result the area, known as “L’ile ...
Alpe d’Huez has had sun and snow galore since 1936. And with a whopping 52km of greens, this is an excellent place for beginners. The easiest skiing is above the village and Les Bergers and there are plenty of wide open runs underneath the DMC gondola, many being ‘beginners only’ so you can learn without too much traffic. If you’re feeling confident, try some of the blue runs coming down from the main mountain and the signal sector back into Alpe d’Huez. There is a really impressive selection of runs for ...
If you like live music, try the Underground in Vieil Alpe, which combines a pleasant atmosphere with bands playing most nights. Smithys tavern is a proven success in the neighbouring resort of Les Deux Alpes and the Smithy’s in Alpe D’Huez has drinks promotions and healthy portions of Tex-Mex to match. If you can’t bear to miss an important game whilst in France then The Sports Bar is the best spot to watch live sports. L’igloo is the place to go if you want to party late into the night. Alpe d’huez has a...
