Had a very good week, the hosts were excellent and the food was absolutely terrific. The only thing – and it’s a very small thing – is that there are quite a lot of vertical steps to get up on the road, which can be really tricky in ski boots! Once you’re up there however, the driver picks you up from the... + more

In the French Alps' Savoie region, La Plagne was established in the early sixties and now consists of 11 villages: 7 purpose built villages and 4 traditional villages. The aptly named Plagne Centre at the heart of the resort is the main hub of shops, restaurants and après ski. Just underneath lies Plagne 1800, a cluster of chalets spread across a steep hillside. Higher up are Aime-la-Plagne, Plagne-Soleil and Plagne-Villages, all accessible via chairlifts from Plagne Centre. Plagne Bellecote rests over a l...
There are plenty of nursery slopes with access to free beginner lifts and a wide choice of different ski schools for those new to skiing. The slopes around the Belle Plagne area are particularly suitable for beginners. The blue run linking Les Bauches to Montchavin provides a manageable step up in difficulty from the nursery slopes. For those who class themselves as intermediate skiers, La Plagne is paradise. 77% of the runs are graded either blue or red. Particular favourites are the run from La Grand Roch...
It might not rival Val d'sere or Verbier for their wild party scenes, but this is an exceptional resort for unique après ski opportunities. Try snowmobiling at night, ice climbing in Champagny, husky sledding, paragliding, extreme tobogganing and more! One experience not to be missed is the bobsleigh track, used for Olympic training. There are various ways you can choose to go down it, but they are all guaranteed to give you a thrill as you will hurtle down at speeds ranging from 80 km/hr up to a lightening 120...

"Brilliant week, the chalet was really, really good."

Mr Hughes, Jersey

The two girls who were our chalet hosts were excellent and really made the holiday for us. The food, cakes and breakfasts and that side of things were all really good. Everyone was happy with their rooms and all the other facilities were good too, the driver who picks you up and takes you wherever you wanted was very helpful. There were some tracks you could ski down to but they weren’t official ones – this was the only downside to the chalet but it was something that we just managed, if there was enough snow we just made our own routes. 1800 only has a couple of bars to choose from so if you want more you have to get the bus or ski lift. We hired the chalet for ourselves and the living area could sit us all comfortably (sometimes you have a chalet that can only seat half of the people staying there).

"Would recommend it to other groups like us"

I shared a room with 2 other guys so we had 3 single beds, and the shower was good. It wasn’t the height of luxury but the food was there when you got back. The suppers varied every day, always with something different. One of the guys I was there with is a vegetarian and he was really well catered for. The chalet staff were pretty friendly, they were quite young but they knew the area really well. You have to get the bus to reach the main resort but the buses were pretty frequent coming every 2-3 minutes. The nearest bar is about a 15-20 minute walk but it’s easy enough to get to. I stayed here as a group of 5 guys and would recommend it to other groups, unless you want the nightlife on your doorstep because you don’t get that here. In the chalet was another group of girls and some couples so we had a good mix of people. We all got on really well and had really nice dinners together.

"1 of the nicer chalets I’ve stayed in"

The only thing – and it’s a very small thing – is that there are quite a lot of vertical steps to get up on the road, which can be really tricky in ski boots! Once you’re up there however, the driver picks you up from the top of the steps and drops you off wherever you want. Our room was quite nice, better than some I’ve stayed in before. The chalet is towards the top end of La Plagne 1800. If you want to go out partying, Plagne Centre is quite far away but if you just want a drink in one of the pubs in 1800 or a relaxing evening in the chalet, it’s fine.
