A lovely old chalet, even better because there were only four of us and we had the place to ourselves! It’s not ski in, ski out but it does have a nice location. The buses run regularly and we didn’t have any problems getting around at all. The guy looking after us was really attentive and well organised. We ... + more

In the French Alps' Savoie region, La Plagne was established in the early sixties and now consists of 11 villages: 7 purpose built villages and 4 traditional villages. The aptly named Plagne Centre at the heart of the resort is the main hub of shops, restaurants and après ski. Just underneath lies Plagne 1800, a cluster of chalets spread across a steep hillside. Higher up are Aime-la-Plagne, Plagne-Soleil and Plagne-Villages, all accessible via chairlifts from Plagne Centre. Plagne Bellecote rests over a l...
There are plenty of nursery slopes with access to free beginner lifts and a wide choice of different ski schools for those new to skiing. The slopes around the Belle Plagne area are particularly suitable for beginners. The blue run linking Les Bauches to Montchavin provides a manageable step up in difficulty from the nursery slopes. For those who class themselves as intermediate skiers, La Plagne is paradise. 77% of the runs are graded either blue or red. Particular favourites are the run from La Grand Roch...
It might not rival Val d'sere or Verbier for their wild party scenes, but this is an exceptional resort for unique après ski opportunities. Try snowmobiling at night, ice climbing in Champagny, husky sledding, paragliding, extreme tobogganing and more! One experience not to be missed is the bobsleigh track, used for Olympic training. There are various ways you can choose to go down it, but they are all guaranteed to give you a thrill as you will hurtle down at speeds ranging from 80 km/hr up to a lightening 120...

"Lovely old chalet in La Plagne"

The buses run regularly and we didn’t have any problems getting around at all. The guy looking after us was really attentive and well organised. We had excellent food and loads of it, so much that we couldn’t always finish it! The quality was very good and we have no complaints there.

"Laponia from the host's perspective"

Jo, Sno Staff

I did a ski season over the 2012/13 winter season as the host for this chalet, so I thought it would be useful to share how I found it. Chalet Laponia is situated on ‘middle track’ in La Plagne, 1800, which means that it is in a ski in/ski out location. However, it does involve a small amount of ‘poling’ along the track to get to a descent. The location is in between La Plagne centre and La Plagne 1800. Both are within walking distance but with ski equipment, it can be easier to take the bus which is less than a minutes’ walk away, at the end of track. The buses from there ran every 15 minutes over the winter season and were completely free. The stops that the bus includes are Bellecote; from where you can take the Roche De Mio gondola up to the glacier or snow park, La Plagne centre, where you will find all your main lift stations and ski schools or La Plagne 1800, which has two chairlifts which take you up the mountain. I always loved the walk down the tree lined track to the chalet as you can just about see the chalet hiding behind the trees. It’s lovely, quaint and cute and very French. It really feels like a traditional alpine chalet, complete with wooden floors and beams. There is also a big open fire which really adds to the atmosphere. The space is split in to two levels, with three of the bedrooms being downstairs and one up stairs. The Chalet can sleep 9 people. As the chalet host, I lived out so guests can really feel like it is their chalet for the week. Everyone I spoke to found the bedrooms to be of good size (all of them being en-suite). Guests also commented on how comfy the beds were and how quiet the chalet was at night – two things that can make or break a ski holiday! There is also another good sized bathroom on the top level which has a large bath. The kitchen and living area really are as spacious as they’re described to be. There was definitely enough space for me to cater for everyone staying in the chalet. As well as this, there is a large separate children's play room which was great for families. The dining room is slightly on the smaller side but there is still plenty of room for everyone to be seated comfortably. There is also a ski and boot area at the front of the property and a ski shed outside which makes it really practical for keeping all your ski equipment tidy and out of the way.

"Pretty looking chalet, a few let downs"

The chalet looks really nice at first glance, it’s very pretty looking and picturesque - I liked the place itself but I wouldn’t go back. We weren’t that impressed with some other parts of the stay. When you’re skiing every day, all you want is a few simple things… Like a good warm shower (the pressure was very low). A warm place to stay (radiators very unpredictable, some nights cold, some nights hot). And a comfortable bed (we got awful back ache). I’m sorry to say the rep really didn’t put in an effort with the food, we wanted to give him a good tip at the end of the stay but we struggled to give him a tip at all. We had soup as a starter at least 3 or 4 times, which was tasty but some variety would have been appreciated. The desserts were a disaster, the rep said it would look awful but taste OK, but it didn’t! We were told there would be canapes and maybe it was because we were late but we never got them. Lastly we were supposed to have port and cheese but it never appeared. We’d read somewhere that the chalet was ski in, ski out which is a deal breaker for us. It’s fairly close but you can’t ski out.
