Overview - chalet description - Chalet Hotel Ducs de Savoie description

The popular Chalet Hotel Ducs de Savoie is in the very heart of Val d’Isère remains a firm favourite with families, many of whom return every year! Traditionally appointed with warm wood tones and rich fabrics, this is one of those hotels that makes you feel welcome and comfortable from the moment you enter.

‘Location, location, location!’
The Ducs de Savoie is perfectly situated right in the very heart of Val d’Isère, yet conveniently set back from the main busy thoroughfares. A mere stone’s throw from the village centre, the hotel nestles in a side street close to the pedestrianised area and affords easy access to the centre, the main ski-lifts, the children’s nursery ski area and all the resort facilities.

Ski Area Access
What a pleasure it is to be staying at the Ducs de Savoie, and have only a mere 350m stroll to the choice of Val d’Isère’s three main high-speed lifts to whisk you up into the very heart of the skiing.
The Solaise Express chairlift goes straight to the Solaise peak at 2,560m, from where a choice of lifts and runs fans out, including the connections across to the Le Fornet area and the superb snow of the Pissaillas Glacier.

Alternatively, choose either the Bellevarde Express chair or the Olympique gondola to access the Rocher de Bellevarde, with its long cruising runs down to La Daille, and the connections across the Tovière ridge to the wonders of Tignes.

The children’s ski area and adult nursery slopes are also situated in the same base area as the above three lifts, so are equally convenient for our guests.

Yet more options are offered by the resort’s excellent free skibus, which stops just 30m from the Ducs de Savoie, to take you to Le Fornet or La Daille for an alternative starting point.

At the end of your ski day, pistes from both the Bellevarde and the Solaise sides of the valley run back to the same base area, giving you the choice of the short walk back to the Ducs de Savoie, or Val d’Isère’s wonderful selection of inviting cafés and bars for a relaxing après ski drink.

Comfortable Hotel Facilities The lounge/bar is on the ground floor and is an ideal spot for swapping stories of the day’s adventures with apéritifs and canapés, before moving on to the dining-room to enjoy dinner, selected from our Culinary Choice menu, in the attractive dining-room.

Our dedicated Nursery is situated on the fifth floor and offers spacious play areas as well as a quiet sleep room. Snow Club has its own room, on the lower ground floor, for all its indoor fun.

Our staff provide a hot and cold buffet breakfast, afternoon tea and adult-only Culinary Choice evening meals, whilst our Baby-Listening/Child-Patrol, running until 11pm, allows parents to relax in good company over coffee and liqueurs after dining. Children’s high tea is served at 5.30pm and supervised by our staff until 6pm.

We are delighted to offer a range of comfortable family rooms, so that between the choice of twins, triples, family rooms and suites, we can offer sleeping accommodation for all family sizes, whether you are two parents and an infant or a larger family of six. The third bed in the triple rooms is similar to a top bunk but with a wardrobe beneath, and is situated in the entrance hallway of the room. All bedrooms have flatscreen TV/DVD (with UK channels) so bring your favourite DVDs.

Meals - food and drink in Chalet Hotel Ducs de Savoie

With a skiers’ buffet breakfast to start your day, afternoon tea to welcome you ‘home’, and 4- or 5-course evening meals with wine and coffee included to complete the evening, our chalets and Chalet Hotels provide by far the best value accommodation in the Alps!

We set high standards for our cuisine, and train our staff extensively before the season starts, to ensure that guests will enjoy every meal with us.

For six days of the week in both chalets and Chalet Hotels, our staff prepare all your meals for you. The majority of parents feel that young children can inhibit the dinner-party atmosphere at evening meals, especially if they are over-tired, so children under 13 years are served High Tea at around 5.30pm in our chalets and Chalet Hotels alike. They are not then permitted to join adult dinner, as they are generally happier either getting some rest ready for tomorrow’s adventures, or if 6 years old or more, joining our child care staff in Cocoa Club.

On their one day off per week, your host in chalets will prepare a Continental-style breakfast which will be left for you to help yourselves, whilst in Chalet Hotels, a full buffet breakfast will still be served to you as normal. That evening, you and your family then have the chance to eat out in one of the local cafés or restaurants, which your Representative will be happy to help you arrange.

Breakfast

A good breakfast is essential on a ski holiday, so we provide our chalet guests a choice of cereals or porridge, fruit juices, plentiful tea, coffee and bread (and croissants in France), cold meats, cheese and preserves, and boiled eggs. This is normally presented buffetstyle for you to help yourself.

In addition to all the above, our Chalet Hotels and NEW this year in all our chalets, a hot dish, such as scrambled eggs on toast, or home-made pancakes with maple syrup is also offered.

Piste Picnics

Our Chalet Hotel teams can also prepare a packed lunch for you on request, at a small local charge. For those keen to keep their Eurospending to an absolute minimum, this is the ideal way to keep your costs down!

Afternoon Tea

The traditional ‘welcome home’ after a day on the slopes will be laid out for you in your chalet or Chalet Hotel, ready for your return, every day except the team’s one day off each week. A good cup of tea or coffee is the perfect accompaniment to a delicious slice of freshly home-baked cake – different every day and our Chalet Hotels also feature a selection of cakes for you to choose from.

Children’s High Tea

High Tea provides children under 13 with a healthy menu, but tailored more towards children’s tastes than our main adult dinner, and puréed food is also always available for infants on request. Parents are asked to accompany their children under 36 months at High Tea please, whilst children from 3-12 years will be supervised by staff.

Adult Dinner in Chalets

In all our chalets, our four-course dinners for adults (and children 13 and over only) start with canapés and an apéritif, followed by an appetiser, main course and dessert. The meal is accompanied by a choice of wines, unlimited during the meal service, with freshly chilled water also always available, and followed by complimentary coffee or tea with chocolates to round off your evening.

Special Diets

Vegetarian options are always on our ‘Culinary Choice’ menu in our Chalet Hotels, and are available in our chalets if you advise us in advance. Other special diets can generally be catered for at a cost of £35 per person per week. Any dietary requirements must be advised to us at the time of booking in order for us to be fully prepared.

Family Dining Chalets

For those families who prefer to eat together with their younger children, we offer our Family Dining option in any chalet of up to 12 beds, if you book the whole chalet for your own party, subject to chalet suitability. Everyone then eats together in the evening, starting at 6.30-7.00pm. The meals are based on our adult menus, with some flexibility for younger taste buds, although not a complete ‘à la carte’ choice!

The additional charge for changing meals to Family Dining is £39 per child.

We update Chalet Hotel Ducs de Savoie's details often, but facilities do change. e.g. some extras listed by the supplier as "free" or included might only be for the first time you use them, or for one time per party, then charged for further use. If any specific feature is essential to your holiday, make sure you ask us to confirm the details of it before you book your holiday.

This accommodation only holiday to Chalet Hotel Ducs de Savoie in Val d'Isere, France departs Sunday 8th January 2017, for a 7 night stay on a "catered chalet" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. It's not included in the basic price of your holiday and is usually paid locally. For reference, the average charged in winter 15/16 was between 50p and £2 per person, per night.
