Near the end of the stunning Ziller Valley, Mayrhofen exudes Austrian charm in a lively, cheerful atmosphere. Dating back to 1511, its architecture's charmingly old school, yet all mod-cons are present and correct. The resort's location is fantastic: Only an hour's drive from Innsbruck airport. The family-friendly nature doesn't stop with its convenient location – restaurants cater for children excellently, kids activities are abundant, and the ski schools are well known as some of the best. "been back 2 years in a row"

We’ve stayed in the Chalet Haus Tyrol 2 years running and would definitely try and stay here if we were in Mayrhofen again. We’ve been to lots of chalets and this is one of the top as ski chalets go, it’s definitely one of the best we’ve been to in terms of the whole package. Unlike other places we’ve stayed in Mayrhofen, it’s nice and near the slopes, with the main Penken lift really nice and close just up the road. The chalet is also right in the town so you really are in the thick of everything. We go as a large group and both times we’ve had the whole chalet to ourselves. The accommodation is really good; with some ski chalets you end up with a bit of an uncomfortable bed but the ones here are fine. Everyone has always been happy with the rooms, the room at the top doesn’t have its own bathroom but there’s one just across the hall which you have to yourself – i.e. you don’t have to share it with any other rooms – and it’s nice and big. Obviously each year depends on the staff and food you get, but what we’ve had has been excellent. Chalet food isn’t always the best but it’s always been good enough, not a la carte but fine for our group. They cater really well for vegetarians and kids and have always tried their hardest to make sure everyone’s happy. The chalet has everything you need so you don’t really need to take anything extra, they supply towels etc. The only thing they don’t supply is shampoo but you only really get that unless you’re in big hotels anyway.

"Good value chalet"

All in all, the chalet is really good value for money. We knew it was going to be basic, the pictures on your website show that and at the end of the day you pay for what you get. The location is really good as you can just get the gondola up. The bedrooms varied in size a bit but overall they were fine, the bathrooms were nice and they did housekeeping every day, changing the towels halfway through the week which was good. One thing I’d say was that the chalet doesn’t have a living/seating area. The only space they have for socialising is where you eat meals, and you couldn’t use that when they were setting / clearing up. They made a good effort for the New Year’s meal with prosecco and canapés however as a whole the food really varied and portion size varied quite a lot between plates: one person would have a big portion and the person next to them would have a small one. If you’re fussy about food it’s probably not the place for you.

"Ideal for groups"

The chalet is really basic so it’s really good for groups – it’s definitely a chalet more for adults than for families, especially if you have younger children. It has a superb location, it’s in the middle of Mayrhofen with the bus stop outside if you want to go up the glacier or get the railway to another resort. You’re also 200 yards to the main station. The food was OK, typical chalet stuff with 3 courses in the evenings, nothing fancy but all perfectly adequate. Breakfast was a good selection of foods that changed every day with a warm option and plenty of fruit and fruit dishes. You could always make yourself a coffee when you came in which was nice. The bedrooms were quite large and we were lucky because the bathrooms had been modernised. There’s a lounge but the dining room is large and was always cleared fairly quickly so you could spend the evenings there.
