Overview - chalet description - Chalet Du Fornet description

Located in the pretty hamlet of Le Fornet, this chalet offers high quality accommodation in the perfect position. The cable car is just across the road, providing swift access up to the high, snowsure L'Iseran and Pointe du Montet areas, and connecting lifts to the Solaise slopes above Val d'Isere. There is also a ski bus stop (running 8am-midnight, 2.45am in peak weeks) just outside to take you directly to Val d'Isère's exciting nightlife.

The chalet is finished to a very high standard with wood wall panelling and authentic wooden floors and all bedrooms have en suite facilities and a balcony.

The lounge area has a large screen satellite TV and opens on to the balcony offering magnificent views from the perfect sun-trap spot on which to enjoy your afternoon tea.

Overall this chalet is perfect for the keen skier who wants a traditional chalet with excellent access to the slopes combined with peace and quiet in the evening, but with the lively centre of Val d'Isere easy to get to whenever you want.

Afternoon Tea

The traditional 'welcome home' after a day on the slopes will be laid out for you in your chalet or Chalet Hotel, ready for your return, every day except on the staff's one day off per week. A good cup of tea or coffee is the perfect accompaniment to a delicious slice of freshly home-baked cake and keeps hungry skiers happy until dinner is ready. As an added benefit for guests in our Chalet Hotels, our chefs prepare a selection of cakes for afternoon tea.

Children's High Tea

In Chalets and Chalet Hotels with family guests, High Tea provides children under 13 years with a healthy menu, tailored more towards children's tastes and puréed food is available for infants on request. High Tea is at 5.30pm, and children do not join the main adult-only dinner.

Children's High Tea in Chalet Hotels

New for 2013/14 Season - Families staying in one of our Chalet Hotels may choose to eat separately (High Tea at 5:30pm) or all dine together at the later adult dinner time if children who have received a child discount pay the meal upgrade charge of £39 at the time of booking only

Dinner in Chalets

A tasty and innovative, freshly cooked dinner will be prepared for you six nights per week by your Chalet Host - or by an experienced and professional chef in our larger chalets - and served with a choice of wines. Our four-course adult-only chalet dinners start with canapés and an apéritif, followed by an appetiser, main course and dessert, and completed by coffee with chocolates to round off your evening.

Your choice of complimentary quality wines is unlimited during the meal service, and freshly chilled water is also of course always available.

Culinary Choice Dinners in Chalet Hotels

A special feature of our Chalet Hotels is a more extensive culinary experience for our guests. With the greater kitchen facilities of a hotel, our professional chefs are able to offer choices of menu at dinner, generally including lighter as well as more hearty options, and always a vegetarian choice for each course. Guests will be asked to choose their evening meals at breakfast for that evening from a varied daily selection.

Our Chalet Hotel adult-only dinners offer 5 courses, starting with canapés and an apéritif, followed by an appetiser, main course and dessert, and a cheese selection to round off your meal in style. All this is then followed by coffee with chocolates to complete your evening's repast! Your choice of complimentary quality wines is unlimited during the meal service and freshly chilled water is also of course always available.

Vegetarian and Special Diets

Vegetarian options are always on our 'Culinary Choice' menu in our Chalet Hotels, and are available in our chalets if you advise us in advance. Other special diets can generally be catered for at a cost of £35 per person per week. Any dietary requirements must be advised to us at the time of booking in order for us to be fully prepared.

We update Chalet Du Fornet's details often, but facilities do change. e.g. some extras listed by the supplier as "free" or included might only be for the first time you use them, or for one time per party, then charged for further use. If any specific feature is essential to your holiday, make sure you ask us to confirm the details of it before you book your holiday.

This package holiday to Chalet Du Fornet in Val d'Isere, France departs Sunday 5th February 2017, for a 7 night stay on a "catered chalet" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. It's not included in the basic price of your holiday and is usually paid locally. For reference, the average charged in winter 15/16 was between 50p and £2 per person, per night.

In France's Rhone Alp region, Val d'Isere makes up half of Espace Killy which is widely thought of as one of the most brilliant and beautiful ski areas in the world. In keeping with the attractiveness of its surroundings, the resort itself is a compilation of alpine hamlets made up of cosy wood and stone chalets. With the original village dating back to the 13th century and eye-catching church steeple at its centre, the whole place is truly oozing alpine charm. And while dreamily trad in appearance, Val's numero...
In Val d'Isere you'll be skiing in the tracks of some of the world's greatest skiers. Olympic medallists Marielle and Christine Goitschel learned to ski there, not to mention triple gold winner Jean-Claude Killy, after whom the wider ski area is named. As an indication of its premier status, the resort has hosted championships including the 1992 Olympics the World Alpine Ski Championships in 2009, along with the World Cup every December. If some of the best skiers in history have learned here, beginners can...
Famed for its après ski, you're unlikely to have a dull evening in Val. The resort has 4 nightclubs including the legendary Dicks T Bar (open from 4pm - 5am). Living up to its name, you'll experience ‘sweet madness' at Le Folie Douce, which boasts some of the best après ski in Europe. “Bananas” is another favourite, well known for its fantastic cocktails and convenient slope-side location. "First chalet holiday, great week but not 4* standard"

Helen
4/ out of 5
I hadn’t stayed in a catered chalet before but we had a great time and I liked how it worked, especially the catering. Charlie the chef was great and we liked the food. There was a cooked option every morning. We had a lovely meal in La Casserole on the staff night off. The other guests were lovely. Our room was nice and I liked not having a TV in there. The position is fantastic being so near the lift. I think the chalet girls had had enough by this time in the season, as the service wasn’t 4* - we weren’t getting a coffee after dinner and had to put the coffee pot on ourselves when we came back for afternoon tea (the cakes were there, just no coffee). They didn’t service the rooms even though we hadn’t put the thing out saying to leave them. On their day off, there wasn’t enough food left out for breakfast. There wasn’t a hot option, but they hadn’t put out extra croissants etc. to make up for it. Other small things didn’t really meet a 4* standard either, like cheap toilet paper and no little shower hat or anything like that – just little added extras that you’d expect from a high standard accommodation.

"Very welcoming and relaxed base for ski holiday"

With its welcoming open hearth, authentic wooden walls and floors and cosy communal areas, this catered chalet really is a home from home in a superbly sheltered part of the top of Val d'Isere. All of the well furnished rooms have en suite facilities (double check this), and the balcony on the second floor is the ideal location for a relaxed après ski drink. The Le Fornet cable car is just over the road and ready to whisk you up into the snow-sure areas around the glacier first thing in the morning.
