Established in 1937, posh party town Verbier covers a sunny plateau slap bang in the middle of Switzerland’s 4 valleys – which just happens to be one of Europe’s biggest and best ski areas. The easy-on-the-eye architecture’s a pretty mix of wood and slate, but it’s what you’ll find within some of these walls that’ll blow your socks off… Blending in with dozens of classic chalets and ski hotels, this place has some of the most luxurious lodgings on the planet. Some hotels come with designer suites an...
Besides being famous for its off-piste routes, Verbier’s well groomed slopes are well known as some of the most challenging in the Alps. Although it mainly attracts intermediate, advanced and expert level skiers seeking adventurous off-piste and steeps experience, the 37 local pistes covering 100km provide for all abilities. The resort has three areas specifically for beginners, including the gentle slopes at Les Moulins, which has a children’s area and Les Esserts, with its 120m magic carpet. Those with a b...
Many say Verbier’s après is the main reason to visit – it’s certainly some of the best in the world and if you want to increase the odds of bumping into Prince Harry or Leonardo di Caprio on the dance floor, there’s no better place to party. From a good old pint in a lively pub (we love Nelson’s and Pub Mont Fort) to swanky cocktails with the socialites at Cordee de Alps, the nightlife is wonderfully varied. An absolute legend is the Farinet - with a huge sliding roof, a commanding position over the mai...

"Just brilliant"

The place is fantastic! There were 10 of us altogether, 5 adults and 5 kids in their 20’s and we all had a ball. The staff running it were just brilliant, can’t remember the name of the girl who ran it but she was very, very good - I think she’s there again next year. The food was absolutely out of this world, they did a mixture of everything and it was first class. All the wine was free with the meals which was brilliant. Before dinner they did canapés and we also had an afternoon tea when we came in from the slopes. You’re in a really good location, from the square you’re in you can just walk up to the main Medran lift, so it’s very central. The hotel doesn’t have a swimming pool but this isn’t a problem – there’s a really nice bar and a lovely place you could sit in the evening (one of our party was desperate to find a guitar as it would have been so nice to sit as a group and play that in the evenings – I’d definitely recommend packing one if you can!). Some of the group were staying in two rooms on the the top floor, which faced out to the side looking over the main street, and had quite a bit of passing noise at night. The rest of us didn’t have any trouble with noise though, we had three rooms in a row on the first floor and all had access to a big wide shared balcony.

"Comfortable chalet, welcoming staff"

We found the chalet very nice and comfortable. The staff were very welcoming and we enjoyed the afternoon teas. The food was good overall and I liked that they rotated people around different tables at dinnertimes which made it very sociable. The accommodation is also very central, near to the bus stop. You don’t expect an awful lot from ski holiday bedrooms – the walls could have done with a few more hooks but it wasn’t a big problem. I would recommend staying here: there were a few children who got fed earlier and all the adults seemed happy so it’s a good chalet for all kinds of people.

"Generally OK, would stay here again"

No complaints with the chalet, it was fine. The location was great as it’s very central. The bedrooms were fine and it was nice having a bath. The food was all good. I’d stay here again. The only thing was that we had to leave a day early (I broke my ankle at the beginning of the week) and the rep knew and was around… But nobody offered to help us with bags or even said goodbye, and it was just me and 4 children.

"Great - couldn’t be more central"

The staff were really friendly, the WiFi was free and you could access it all over the hotel. Our twin room was nice and spacious and had a small balcony overlooking the main road. You’re right in the centre of Verbier and it was only a five minute walk (slightly uphill) to the Medran lift, you can take the bus but we preferred to walk. They do have lockers in the hotel but we actually reserved a locker at the lift so we didn’t have to walk in ski boots. There’s a nice lounge and dining area. We enjoyed the food - breakfast was a continental buffet with hot options like bacon, eggs, porridge etc. and dinner was a choice of two mains with unlimited free wine, which was great! They did soup and bread in the afternoons in the bar which was nice and cosy, Tom who was behind the bar was very friendly.

"Apart from the food, perfectly adequate"

This isn’t the usual quality of accommodation that we stay in (as a chalet hotel, it was tired and needs a bit of TLC) but it was perfectly adequate for the week. We booked a slightly larger room which was fine. We didn’t have a problem with the location – it’s fairly central and the walk to the lifts warmed us up in the mornings. There were some lovely people staying in the chalet and some of the staff were lovely too though the management weren’t top quality and became very defensive regarding the following: I was really disappointed with the food which was awful. The meat was tough and there were times when I asked the staff to send my meal back. They’d have breakfast from say, 7 to 9:30, but what was available at the beginning wasn’t available to you if you came later. We’d ask for a full English and all they’d have left was eggs, they’d have no mushrooms or tomatoes which would have been easy ingredients to source. They just didn’t have enough food for the amount of guests and we’d paid for a standard of catering that we didn’t get, which made the week poor value for money. We ended up walking up the road and having breakfast in a lovely little hotel restaurant. We had a wonderful week anyway and love Verbier as a resort, it was just that the management and meals were a disappointment.

"Really good hotel, well located for Verbier’s nightlife."

The chalet hotel was excellent. The food was very good. The staff were excellent – they were very accommodating, if we wanted to eat later at 9pm then that was no problem. The hotel is in a really good locality, about 100 yards from the Farinet, which is the best bar in Verbier by miles. We had a good room with 2 decent sized beds, and a good bathroom with a shower and a bath. It was too hot, constantly. That was the only problem.

"Well run and has retained its character"

We had a very good time. The chalet hotel is well run, the manager is very good and the other staff were also good. The food was good quality too. Our room was comfortable and very clean. It’s located right in the centre of town. The hotel benefits from being privately owned, in summer it reverts back to being family run, and this means it has remained characterful and unspoilt. It’s a medium range hotel, not a top end hotel like many of the other places in Verbier. The main reason I haven’t given it 5/5 is because of the restraints within the building: in particular the boot room which doesn’t have enough seating. There tends to be rush when everyone comes back from skiing and it can get crowded. People had to sit on the steps outside to put their boots on, etc. Also the heating isn’t really high enough down there to dry your boots out properly. Otherwise I don’t have any other criticisms of the hotel. It’s definitely a good hotel to recommend to other customers.

"Really, really good"

The location is brilliant, it’s right in the centre though so if you want somewhere quiet it’s not really for you. We could walk to the lift with the kids and the ski hire shop was right outside so it was perfect. The staff were really good, very helpful, and enthusiastic still even though it was towards the end of the season. The rooms were very basic but perfectly clean. For the price it was very good value, we got a good deal. The food was also very good, they changed it round for the kids.

The staff were really cool, we got on really well with them, they were great dudes. The food was awesome – they must have a gourmet chef, everyone was saying how it was proper restaurant quality. There was a nice atmosphere. It’s nicely located too.
