Overview - chalet description - Chalet Christophorus description

Chalet Christophorus proved hugely popular with its guests, not least for its rarity value - at the time of going to press, this is still the one and only catered chalet for adult guests in the whole of this superb resort!

Set in a quiet cul-de-sac off the main street, within easy walking distance of the village centre, and right on the slopes at the foot of the imaginatively named No 6 Blue run, the Christophorus is one of the best located chalets in the Alps! For added convenience, the beginners ski area is just behind the chalet and the ski-school meeting-point, a mere 50m away.

Just 30m from the ski-room door, you can put your skis on and ski down to the main Festkogl gondola, and then ski back right to the chalet at the end of the day. Or, if you wanted to start from the village centre, the regular free ski-bus stops just 50m from the chalet.

The bedrooms are all well appointed, comfortable and attractively styled, most with their own private en suite bath and separate wc, and several with balcony or terrace.

The dining-room on the first floor is traditionally styled with light wooden fixtures, and there is a traditional Tyrolean tiled stove to add ambience and warmth to your chalet dining experience. A small separate lounge offers a quiet spot to read or chat over the day’s skiing, and the sauna and relaxation area are an added bonus for unwinding after a busy ski day.

Guests will be asked to choose their evening meals at breakfast for that evening from a varied daily selection.

Our Chalet Hotel adult-only dinners offer 5 courses, starting with canapés and an apéritif, followed by an appetiser, main course and dessert, and a cheese selection to round off your meal in style. All this is then followed by coffee with chocolates to complete your evening's repast! This package holiday to Chalet Christophorus in Obergurgl, Austria departs Sunday 8th January 2017, for a 7 night stay on a "catered chalet" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. It's not included in the basic price of your holiday and is usually paid locally. For reference, the average charged in winter 15/16 was between 50p and £2 per person, per night.

This traditional mountain village sits at a high 1930m in Austria’s Oztal valley. Obergurgl is renowned as a snow sure resort with some of Austria’s highest altitudes, making it well worth a visit if you’re travelling particularly early or late in the season. Scattered with upmarket accommodation, the village itself blends a touch of luxury with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It has a vibrant character and is oozing alpine charm with many a Tyrolean tradition to be found in the town and on the mountains...
A number of highly regarded ski schools are on hand for beginners – there’s a gentle learning slope at the resort for picking up the basics. A mini club and ski kindergarten are available at the Obergurgl Ski School where skiing is taught in a fun and safe environment for little ones just starting out. The Topexpress Gondola takes you to Hochgurgl’s higher-altitudes. Wide pistes and amazing snow make this the perfect area for progressing beginners to test their abilities. After steadying those legs, work y...
The après starts on the mountains where there are a host of bars ready to serve skiers that well-deserved pick me up of warm glühwein. The skis come off at the lively Nederhutte, just above the resort, where merry skiers mingle with drinks accompanied by live music before getting up on the tables when the real party starts. The gondola next to the bar will take those a little unsteady on their skis back to the resort - when these close skidoos run everyone back to base. Hohe Mut is another favourite amongst...

The chalet is very good in general, close to the slopes so very convenient as you can get right out from the back. It’s not too far to walk into town either. The chalet itself is nicely laid out, the rooms had a good view and a nice amount of space. Food was really good with a decent menu and meals that were nicely prepared. Whatever their relationship with the food company was, it worked out well for us as customers. There are good facilities for keeping equipment which is always important. Overall I would definitely recommend the Christophorous as a good place to stay.

"Still the only adult chalet in town?"

There's no wonder this place is so popular. If you want to ski awesome Obergurgl with its terrifically snow sure reputation and classy ambiance, there's no better place to stay, because this is the only catered chalet that's for grown ups in town. And this is one very grown up resort, with bucket loads of alpine history and a superb snow record. The chalet is known for its friendly and expert staff who not only provide hearty mountain food for the hard charging first-to-last-lift brigade, but also have great advice on where to ski and the nicer spots to venture out to after your well earned supper. If your Obergurgl ski holiday has to be in a catered chalet (a fine stipulation in our opinion) and you're not taking children, this is the place to base yourself for a very special week in one of Austria's best winter destinations.

"Really good value and location"

Chalet was overall good value (as ski holidays go!). It’s in a really good position for ski in / ski out, boot room is very organised, our room was clean – could have done with a bit more storage, there weren’t any drawers but there was lots of hanging room. The room for my three teenage boys was big enough. The food was fine, only small complaint I had was that the cutlery and crockery was not very clean, I think the dishwasher just needed some rinse aid and it would have been fine. For the afternoon tea, we would have liked some bread, butter and jam (to keep the hungry teenage boys happy!) but it was lovely to have tea and coffee available all the time. We hadn’t been to Obergurgl before but I would go again. It’s easy to navigate, has good links to Hochgurgl and there were no queues (even though we did go early in December which is never too busy). Even though we were here in December we had March weather – lots of sunshine and not too cold – I was expecting to be frozen! The pistes were beautifully groomed and we had no trouble with the skiing. My son broke his wrist on the 5th day and the clinic don’t take an EHIC card so make sure you have travel insurance! The situation was very well handled by the reps who were good and efficient and the hospital back home were pleased with the treatment my son received out there.
