This package holiday to Chalet Alaska in Tignes, France departs Saturday 17th January 2026, for a 7 night stay on a "catered" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. Tignes (pronounced 'Teens' by Brits and 'Teenya' by the French) is one half of the vast ‘Tignes-Val d'Isere’ ski area, one of the biggest linked domains in France. High-altitude terrain and Grande Motte glacier skiing ensure the resort both opens earlier in the ski season and also closes later than most resorts, and we’ve even seen lifts running for stints of summer skiing. Split into 5 purpose-built villages with distinct characters, it's well linked by pistes, lifts and free buses. Tignes Le Lac (aka Tignes...
With varied pistes at a high altitude, the ski area has impressive powdered terrain for skiers and boarders alike. Beginners can practice on the nursery slopes at Le Lac and Le Lavachet, where you'll find gentle, quiet runs that are accessible via free beginners' lifts. Le Bollin at Val Claret is another conveniently situated green and Grattalu is a lovely wide blue for those wanting to build confidence. Tignes is incredible if you ski at an intermediate level, with miles of powdery blue and red runs includi...
While it's said that those who appreciate Tignes do so for the serious skiing over the après ski, this doesn't do justice to the fact that Tignes' 60+ bars/pubs and 4 night clubs provide some of the best nightlife in the Alps. All villages have their fair share of places to eat and drink, and with a shuttle bus service running 24 hours, you can enjoy your evening without worrying about the journey back. Jam bar is small but with a great atmosphere and Loop bar pretty much offers it all: with live sport, world c...

"Walk into town easily"

Adequate, not luxury accommodation – typical ski chalet. Compact, small bathroom. Cleanliness was not great, had end of season complacency. Staff were great, very friendly and helpful. The room was underneath the staff accommodation, so woken up by late after their night out. Would not go back for the food. Small portions, no second servings. Wasn’t exactly gourmet. Location was good. Ski access was very close. 4.5/5 Avoid room 8

"Welcoming staff, good food, brill location"

First impressions – everyone was very welcoming and there’s lots of room with everything being nice and clean. Food – the food was good and there was plenty of it, everything was presented nicely and it was very traditional. Rooms – we had 4 of the rooms and they were all different sizes. I wouldn’t recommend the ones in the attic for anyone tall; with the eaves there isn’t much room. The showers were all fine and we always had plenty of hot water. Rest of the chalet – the lounge area was good, the hot tub wasn’t particularly clean so we didn’t use it much but the sauna was nice. Location – it’s ski in, ski out which is brilliant, even though there wasn’t much snow (we were here in April) it was less than one minute to get to the ski slopes and you just get the lift back up. It’s fairly easy to get into town for the bars and restaurants.

"Everything you’d expect, very good value for money"

Adam Souness, Midlothian

The chalet was excellent and we had an enjoyable stay there, I can’t think of any main negatives. It’s a basic chalet facility but for the price and value for money it’s spot on. The room my sons had was a good size, I think I got the lesser room however for a 1 person room it was ideal. The location is good as you have the ability to get on the slopes quite quickly; you just walk down a path between two buildings for 50 yards, clip your skis on and ski all the way down to the lifts. You could plan the runs at night so you ended up there as well. The hire equipment shop is 100m from the chalet and they were brilliant, I took my skis back because they weren’t suiting me perfectly and the staff were more than happy to replace them. The food was most enjoyable and the atmosphere was excellent. WiFi is limited everywhere in France and in the chalet there was only one WiFi unit, so if you wanted anything you all had to sit around it! It was in the lounge area so this wasn’t really a problem.

"For the price we paid, it was fantastic."

The chalet was quite nice, the location is a little bit off the beaten track but the hot tub was fantastic. It was the first week of the season and the staff were really up for helping out and keen to impress. Everything was very clean. It wasn’t the most roomy but how long are you in there for anyway... and there’s lots of room up on the mountains! The quality of the food was great, I wouldn’t argue if there was more of it but the staff did a good job. We had a twin room which was alright but it would have been nice to have a double. The good thing was that we had enough storage which you don’t always get in ski accommodation. Getting out and about was alright as long as the staff showed you where you could cut through, the way back in the evenings was more difficult as it was a little walk uphill.

Excellent value from some of the friendliest and most attentive chalet hosts in the alps. It's hard to beat sunbathing on the terrace after a day in the incomparable Espace Killy. Ask the chalet girls and boys if you can pop your 12 pack of stubbies in the fridge - its the ultimate thing to come home to! SNO expert Top Tip: Remember to ask your hosts for to recommend a great local restaurant for dinner when they have their day off, and book your table at the start of the week (you don't want to be trying to get a table when half the chalets in Tignes empty for the weekly seasonaires' night off).

The accommodation was good. When we went the chalet was not full so there was plenty of space. The staff were brilliant! And the hot tub was great. The best thing for me was the altitude - a snow sure holiday with fresh snow all week was worth the transfer time and the skiable area is massive with the full area pass. Off piste is also excellent.
