In France's Rhone Alp region, Val d'Isere (pronounced: val de saire/sare/ser or val d sere) is widely thought of as one of the most brilliant and beautiful ski areas in the world. In keeping with the giddyingly gorgeous surroundings, the resort itself is one of France's prettiest - a huddle alpine hamlets formed from cosy wood and stone chalets. With the original village dating back to the 13th century and a Christmas-card-worthy church steeple at its centre, there’s alpine charm by the bucket load. While dre...
Skiers in Val d'Isere are schussing in the tracks of some of the world's greatest skiers. Olympic medallists Marielle and Christine Goitschel learned to ski here, not to mention triple gold winner Jean-Claude Killy, after whom the wider ski area is named. As an indication of this place's premier status - the resort has hosted championships including the 1992 Olympics, the World Alpine Ski Championships in 2009 and World Cup events every December. If some of the best skiers in history have learned here, begi...
Famed for its après ski, there's no chance of a dull evening in Val. Living up to its name, you'll experience ‘sweet madness' at the original Le Folie Douce, which brings you some of the best après ski in Europe - including dancers, musicians, raining champagne and much more... Once that closes, Dicks T Bar's a local legend, staying open into the early hours each night. Bananas is another firm favourite, much loved for its crafty cocktails and slope-side location. In Val d'Isere's 90-something restaurants, ...

"Central village location for chalet with great facilities"

Previously we have been to Val with this company and other operators. This particular chalet is centrally located, which is great for access to the shops and nearby bus stop, from which you can go direct to the slope in a couple of minutes. The bonus with a large chalet like Aspen Lodge is that there is a full concierge and lounge service for all the different suites, with free drinks and pool table. Couldn't quite believe it. We had the mezzanine room in Juniper suite. It is well insulated from sound in the living room, and it has nice views. However, being at the top of the building, it gets very hot, requiring the windows to be left open. The downside to this is that you may hear the exodus from nearby Dick's Tea Bar through the early hours, as this room faces the mountainside. The other rooms face the opposite direction and are much quieter. Aside from a lack of sleep, we experienced the usual high standard of service from the company, with only a few issues.

The chalet was spacious, comfortable, well equipped and clean. Nice big modern bath for those sore muscles. Lovely fireplace, dining & living area for hanging out with my friends. Very homely. Having a chalet host made a real difference, especially with Sophie who has the loveliest smile! There was a real sense of hospitality and we felt well looked after. From wake-up coffee to the full breakfast cooked to order, (and not having to load the dish washer ourselves pre-ski), to the cakes and tea all laid out awaiting our return, to the beautifully cooked dinners. I was surprised how much I enjoyed just relaxing in the chalet in the evenings and not having to go in search of food even though I normally enjoy eating out. We were impressed with the effort that went into preparing our meal, and I enjoyed every single meal! The pasta version of Tartiflette was especially good! On Wednesday reception made a good restaurant recommendation and booking for us. Sebastian the chalet manager also visited us several times during our stay and helped us even on his day off. The journey / transfers were also very efficient and there is always someone who can help ... Overall, 5 stars...

... even better than last year...although we loved last year as well. Sorry about our kids...we find them a pain as well...but the bubble bath in the Jacuzzi was the limit and you were so kind in mopping it all up, and we were relieved to find that it didn't leak through to downstairs- it would have been an awkward insurance claim! Love the apartments..5* all round...you honestly made us feel incredibly special and nothing was too much- although Im sure our demands at times probably were- so thanks for you patience and dedication. You make the holiday such a personal and valuable experience which we have never experienced form the 'others' So well done- the only down side is well back again to exhaust you another time Best Andrew
