A holiday in a catered chalet is often considered the pinnacle of skiing luxury. Powered by a chalet cooked breakfast, you can ski hard all day knowing that someone else has taken already taken care of the catering for the evening. Cosy up straight from the slopes with some warm tea and fresh baked treats, and with dinner served later you’ve got no reason to have to brave the cold again that day.
Although chalets in Zell are hard to come by, there are some great options in the quieter resort of Kaprun. The Chalet Mara is a great choice for families- only a five minute walk from the Maiskogel family mountain, it’s right next to the village centre and regular busses will whip you off to the other slopes in the region. The larger Chalet Abendruh is perfect for groups who want to make their own entertainment. Slightly further out from the village, its larger capacity will see you leaving with far more friends than you arrived with.
The impression many people have of chalet holidays is that they’re only an option for the most affluent- this couldn’t be further from the case. The cost of eating out in a resort adds up- even if you’re doing your own cooking some days- and even with careful budgeting costs can often spiral out of control. Catered chalets compare favourably in price to half board hotels, though the ambience is often far cosier in the chalets.
