Easter skiing in Winter Park can offer you some of the best conditions to carve some turns. With March and April tending to provide the warmest temperatures in the season, you could be saying goodbye to your thermals and hello to t-shirt skiing. With the average high of about 0, and low of about -8, it’s usually still cold enough to maintain very pleasurable snow conditions, as the height of between 2,743m and 3,676m has a habit of ensuring outstanding skiing. In addition, the fact that the slopes are almost all northern facing means that the warm spring sun stays off the snow for longer periods, meaning the slopes don’t have a tendency to turn into slush early on.
If you’re working up a sweat, or in the unlikely event of slushy snow, there are a number of spots perfect for sunning yourself. One of our favourite things to do is watching the experts throw some tricks in the Dark Territory Park. If the combination of exercise and sun is leaving you a bit parched, the Cheeky Monk is usually a great bet. With an outside patio, you can sunbathe whilst sipping on one of their numerous drafts beers and watch the world go by. For a spot to eat, the Lodge at Sunspot gives patrons the chance to view the Fraser Valley from above 10,000feet. You could choose from a lunch or dinner menu, in addition to their usual offering of a brunch on Easter Sunday, a great way to celebrate. Down in town, the Hideaway Bistro is a fantastic option for gourmet food at a great price, perfect for an Easter celebration or just a holiday treat.
There are usually heaps of seasonal events to celebrate both Easter and the beauty of spring skiing. One of our favourites is the annual Easter Egg Hunts, two of which are held both in Central Park West Meadow and on the mountain, where kids can ski and search at the same time. Alternatively, usually at the end of the season is the Coca Cola Spring Splash, in which entrants take part in a course filled with obstacles, finishing with an attempt to skim over a pool of mountain water in the quickest time... Fancy dress and fun are the name of the game, with live music to keep everyone entertained before and after.
