Davos is a fantastic place to spend New Year’s since there is so much going on. It’s an ideal time to make the most of the resort’s impressive 320km ski area which has a track record of optimum snow conditions during this time (check out our information on the resort’s snow history on the left). Aside from the skiing, there are usually lots of events and parties over the New Year too. One such event is the Spengler Cup international ice-hockey tournament, which is normally held at this time of year in the town’s impressive Vaillant Arena. The resort also usually hosts the Big Bang music festival with live performances by international hip-hop acts. In previous years Chalet Guggel up on the Jakobshorn has thrown some great New Year’s parties (the gondola runs late to whisk you up the mountain). If that seems too far, wander up the hill on the footpath from the main promenade in town to get a good view of the fireworks. On New Year’s Day visitors can take the 20 min train ride to Klosters to watch the annual piglet race, a unique and fun event where locals bet on specially trained pigs.
To celebrate the New Years in style why not stay at one of our top hotels - we have a range of great properties to choose from, most based in the middle of Davos, ensuring you don’t miss any of the action. Take the hassle out of organising your trip and book one of our flight and accommodation package deals, or one of our self-drive holidays. To book, just give one of our helpful advisors a ring.
