Sestriere is a very good winter resort, we have been two or three times now so we know what we’re going to get. It could do with more night life but that’s the story of many ski resorts. It links up to the Milky Way and has very good snowboarding and skiing. It’s also very good value compared to France, when it comes to buying the lift pass and other things.

Sestriere was perfect for the kids and we’ll be going back next year. Compared to France and Switzerland it’s much easier to learn here, as there’s nothing to scare you or put you off. Towards the end of the week we couldn’t get them off the slopes! The Italian ski school were great. It’s a good resort if you don’t want anything fancy. A top notch skier might find it too easy, but it really is a massive resort with lots of opportunity.

I would recommend Sestriere, it was good for us and we enjoyed our week here. It wasn’t terribly good for absolute beginners who were adults, but for our 2 children it was fine and the ski school was good. It was the end of the season so the conditions weren’t brilliant and the place wasn’t very exciting, but overall we had a very good time.

A very good week overall, we had decent snow – a couple of days of white out but it was fine for me. Sestriere is a purpose built resort; it’s not olde worlde like others but I knew that before we arrived. It’s really good for intermediate skiers, but you can go and do advanced stuff if you want. Likewise there were lots of easier slopes to get your ski legs back on. It’s mainly a resort for skiers, there are bars and stuff but you couldn’t choose to spend a day in a spa or anything like that. If you’re there for the skiing it’s great, but for anything else not so great.

Sestriere is not a cutesy-cutesy Alpine village like you’d find in Switzerland. The best way to describe it is that it’s a bit like an out of town shopping centre, with big concrete buildings. The resort was built by the owner of Fiat as a rest and relaxation place where employees of the car company in Milan could go and have a holiday...
It’s not the prettiest of places if you want to meander around the shops and bars for the week but the skiing is good and the slopes are good. The pistes are groomed and kept well. The area is probably best for mid-strong intermediates and you can ski off piste if you want, for families there are some delightful little nursery slopes in the village.

We’d been moved to Sestriere because of bad conditions elsewhere at the beginning of the season. We were a big group and this was everyone’s first time in Sestriere and we had a brilliant week, a big success. The skiing was good, obviously the conditions weren’t the best they could be but everyone was pleased. With regard to non-skiers, we did a nice walk to the nature reserve from our hotel (Du Col – great hotel) and if conditions were better we could have done snow shoeing which would have been lovely.
The area itself is great, really reasonable in price with cheap coffees etc. I would recommend that anyone who comes here should get the cable up and have dinner in the restaurant at the top: lovely food, a good atmosphere and brilliant views.

We were lucky with the weather and had a great week. Our group has quite different levels but the area worked fine for us. I’d definitely go back.

Sestriere is one of the better ski resorts I’ve been to, it’s amazing! The mountain was really good and the snow was excellent – I was very impressed. I ski and snowboard and wasn’t going off piste but it had a really good spread of everything with big open bowls as well as pistes right through the treeline. We did husky sledding which is a bit of a touristy thing to do but was good fun.

I like the size of Sestriere, you have a huge ski area of about 4-5 different resorts and you can also ski into France in a day if you want to. In Sestriere alone there are some good runs for all abilities. I taught my fiancé to Snowboard there so it’s a great place for beginners, with plenty of cruisey blue runs. For experts there are also some very scary drag lifts that take you to what I’d call a Canadian rated black...
My advice to anyone going here for the first time is to try and cover as much of the area as you can – there’s no one particular run I’d recommend but just don’t stick to the same resort as there’s so much out there!
You can do the entire area in a day, but it’s very full on and not your typical ski day where you stop off and rest now and again – you literally get your drinking done from your bag on the ski lift! There are lots of good food restaurants including 2 or 3 on the slopes in the Sestriere area. Everything is most definitely cheaper than you get in France or Austria (Italy’s always been the best place to ski if you want to conserve money).

Sestriere is a nice resort, I’d definitely go back and most ski resorts we just go to once and don’t go again, so that shows how good it is!
We didn’t manage to ski everywhere in one week, there are loads of slopes so you can ski a different piste each day. You can ski the Olympic downhill and things like that and wherever you go, it’s all well groomed and pisted. It’s definitely worth dropping down to some of the other resorts; they all have their own bars and restaurants so you can make a whole day of it. We liked taking the gondola over to Sansicario which has some lovely reds that suited us down to the ground.

We had a great time! Sestriere is great for beginners and intermediates but not so much for experts. It’s really good for families though and there’s a very easy green run back to the resort which is the perfect way to end the day. One thing I definitely wouldn’t recommend is skiing over to Sauze d’Oulx – the access route goes along a very narrow road which has a steep fall off down the side, it was very scary and we all found it horrid. I went into Sestriere one night and it’s a bit quiet for a town of that size.

Sestriere is lovely, everything is reasonably priced and the skiing is really good.
The red runs in Borgata are beautiful and in the other area behind Sestriere (can’t remember the name) the blue runs are amazing.
My 17 year old son loved it here, he made friends easily and Sestriere has a lovely fun park which they enjoyed.
You can’t ski off-piste without a guide because it’s unlawful but I think that’s a good thing!

Hadn’t been to Sestriere before, and wouldn’t go again although Italy is great – much cheaper and a short transfer to the resorts.
You have to go up the little carpet and then push yourselves up to the bubble lift where you then go over the top.
You can’t ski down to the bottom so have to get back in the bubble from the middle station.
Staying in Sauze d’Olux in the future as we spend most of the time skiing there anyway!

Well, it was December 2011 that we went to Sestriere. Resort was excellent for intermediate skiers. Lots of great red and blue runs, and the vast expanse of the Milky way area meant that you would never be bored. Queues for lifts were short (although we did go over Christmas) and the area of Sestriere, Sansicario (sp) and Sauze D'Oulx were really well joined up. Sean
