Good conditions in late March

Reviewed 17 May 2016

Our first visit to Pas de la Casa and we got quite lucky with the weather. It was snowing on the first couple of days then warmed up with some sunshine, so with sun and snow it was ideal! People were talking before about it being a bit ugly compared to the Alps but I didn’t really think that. The nightlife is decent.
We are a group of skiers who’ve skied 2 or 3 times before, and the ski area was pretty perfect for our level.

Pas de La Casa 2016

Reviewed 9 May 2016

We’ve come back to Pas a lot, mainly because it’s really cheap but also just because it has everything you want.

It’s VAT free - you can get beer for 1.50 Euros and if you smoke you could probably smoke yourself to death for 20 Euros. I brought a litre bottle of Disaronno and Jack Daniels for 8 Euros… Guitars are half price if you’re a musician. You can buy jewellery, watches and anything electrical even tazers!

The ski area caters for everything; they’ve added a new lift for the nursery slopes to make it all easier. My main advice is just exploring, don’t go up the mountain and do the one bit all week, there is so much to ski that you can ski somewhere new each time.

The only reason I’m not going to go again is that the transfer is too long. 3.5 hours! The scenery is lovely but it’s just too long.

Recommendations:
Red Lion for a bitter / lager and happy hours
O’Neill’s for the best bitter
Miluwakee is one of the main bars, really busy of a Sunday and very popular with kids… Live bands every night between 5 and 7.
Airports – always go to Lleida rather than Toulouse. I’ve never been back through Toulouse airport in under 14 hours. Lleida is a tiny airport, very 60’s where you walk across the runway. It’s like a tent -nothing there and one flight at a time - but the process is smooth and quick.

A marmite resort but I love it!

Reviewed 3 May 2016

I love Andorra and like Pas de La Casa because there’s always snow and the slopes are really good. You’ve got blue ones, red ones and black ones. This year the transfer from Lleida was so much better than the one from Toulouse. I always prefer the Spanish side rather than the French side, as if you land on the French side and there’s lots of snow the journey is near impossible.
Some tips after 10 years of ski holidays in Pas de La casa:
- Andy at the Red Lion is great (it’s the sister pub to Paddy’s)
- Paddy’s is good too, it’s the best place to go for a breakfast and has become well renowned for it!
- Steer clear of the Milwaukee…
- Avoid the surgical alcohol passed off as vodka when you’re offered really cheap drinks in some places. A vodka red bull with cheap stuff will cost 5 euros if you want to get off your face, but if you’re discerning and insist on vodka it will cost you 7.
- I always go when the school holidays have finished as it’s a lot quieter.
- Shopping is good only if you like duty free (fags, perfume etc.). There are a couple of Pandora shops and that kind of thing but it’s a bit rubbish.
- They now have the odd kebab shop open all night (everything used to close at 12) but stay off the burgers…
- Don’t bother doing anything unlawful as the police are always to be found making sure everyone behaves.
- If you’re expecting it to be as cheap as it used to be, it’s not!
Overall it’s a marmite resort, you either love it or you hate it! But on the whole I think Andorra is great.

Brilliant week in Pas

Reviewed 26 Apr 2016

Would probably go back to Pas de la Casa again, it’s not as good as the alps (2 Alpes last year was amazing) but we still had a brilliant time. The slopes are good for beginners, two of our group were learning and they picked it up really well. The instructors were some of the best I’ve seen. Everything is a lot cheaper too.

Andorra's great – ticks all the boxes & is cheap

Reviewed 4 Feb 2016

Pas de la casa is a great resort for all levels with plenty of nursery and beginner runs close to the resort whilst intermediates have plenty of reds to keep themselves entertained.

Andorra is VAT free and so the resort benefits from lower food and drink costs than French Alps (you can get a pint for about 3 euros, or even less during happy hour). Après in Pas is good fun with a selection of bars (lots of Irish and English bars) and late night clubs with plenty going on! Whilst you’re not skiing, there are loads of VAT free shopping, cafes and restaurants to visit! Overall I highly rate this resort as a cheaper alternative that ticks all the boxes for a great ski holiday.

Pas de la Casa March 2015

Reviewed 17 Jun 2015

Pas de la Casa has a really good ski area with loads of terrain and lots of lifts, which meant there was hardly any queues. The weather was fantastic and all in all the whole experience was really good – we are planning to go back next season! The younger ones went to a really good steak house one evening that was absolutely fantastic and there’s a great bar on the slopes: as you ski down to the ski hire place, you turn off just before the bottom and put your skis up, the bar has happy hour and we enjoyed stopping off there. Pas de la Casa has nice shops as well – we take our own boots skiing and went to the ski repair shop, who charged us 10 euros to stretch the boots, which made them a lot more comfortable. The staff there were fantastic and really knowledgeable, showing us how to do our ski boots up properly which we hadn’t been showed when we bought them in the UK!

Not the world's best, but we can ski for free here!

Reviewed 26 Mar 2015

The snow was good (we always book late to get the best conditions) and we had more than enough to ski, all the runs are linked up so you can ski over to Soldeu (when we visited Soldeu before there was nothing there, just a winding road but now it’s a mega resort!).
There aren’t any gondolas though, the area only has chairlifts and it gets very windy in Pas de la Casa as it’s the highest resort in Andorra, just over the border from France.
There isn’t much skiing for the very experienced – my son and daughter ski in Switzerland and Italy and my son’s just come back from heliskiing, I don’t think they’d have been impressed. It’s a great area for intermediates however and we certainly had enough reds to test us.
The food on the slopes is a bit expensive and gets more so the higher you go. The restaurants and bars catered to a very young crowd and having lunch in town is a different experience – it’s certainly not posh like other resorts.
This isn’t the best resort in the world, but the people are lovely and prices are still reasonably cheap. The best thing is that because we’re in our seventies, we can ski for free here!

Pas de la Casa Christmas Week

Reviewed 23 Mar 2015

We’d been to Pas de la Casa before and this time was 6 years since our last visit. We returned because it has the highest altitudes in the area and whilst other resorts were suffering at the beginning of the 14/15 season, we had good conditions with 4-5 days of sunshine and heavy snow on the day we left. The whole area is linked now, so you can work your way up and down 3 or 4 valleys and ski down to Soldeu which is two mountains away. Relatively speaking the lifts were quite old, with no bubbles to keep the cold out although we’ve been spoiled by good lifts in other resorts!

Lively resort, good skiing, ski now before it gets expensive!

Reviewed 24 Jun 2014

I’ve skied all over France and done a bit of Italy and thought I’d give Andorra a go as my brother recommended it. As a ski resort it’s not bad at all. The snow was good and the overall weather wasn’t too bad.

You have to be a good skier to go over to the other resorts and enjoy the whole area. To ski from the top of Pas de la Casa to the other area, you have to go via red runs, and they’re not very easy reds either. Once you’re over, there’s masses of skiing and loads of wide slopes, you can see more or less wherever you want to go.

Pas de la Casa is more lively than France, it’s lively all the time if you like good après ski and nightlife (they were saying it’s the Ibiza of skiing but I wouldn’t go that far!). At one time it was known for being the 'cheap place to ski' because it’s duty free... it is cheaper than France but it’s definitely becoming more expensive as they seem to be realising they can charge as much as other resorts...

Good for a lad’s drinking holiday

Reviewed 18 May 2014

Pas de la Casa is alright, it’s quite rowdy. We went out in the evening a couple of times. The skiing is pretty good, it’s a fairly big ski area. Some of the lifts were closed on a few days but that was just because of the weather, that’s normal. It’s maybe not best for beginners, more of a middle level resort. It’s good for a lad’s drinking holiday (not ideal for families).

Good range of slopes to suit all abilities

Reviewed 14 May 2014

We’ve been going to Andorra for 7 years, and while it’s definitely risen in price, it’s still great value. Nothing like French prices. There are some good bars in Pas, especially the Underground bar and grill – it’s not very big but the food is great and the staff are friendly. Another good restaurant I’d recommend is La Copa. We just ate out the whole time we were there. The area is very picturesque. The best thing about Pas de La Casa though is the range of slopes available which can accommodate all levels of skier. Every year we come we seem to bring some total beginners with us and they are always happy and pick it up fast. There are lots of ski schools. I’d also recommend taking a trip down to la Vella, the capital, which is only 45 minutes away by bus. You can go shopping (duty free) or go to one of the biggest spas in Europe.

Great beginner/intermediate snowboarding

Reviewed 13 May 2014

I’d been to Arinsol and Soldeu before but this was my first time in Pas – it’s a pretty big area and you can go over all of it with the pass. Andorra used to be cheap but it’s not so much now as it was when I first went. We were snowboarding and I would definitely recommend Pas to boarders as it’s quite big and has more slopes than the other resorts – I’d say it’s good for snowboarders up to intermediate level but if you were advanced or an expert you probably wouldn’t find enough of a challenge. The past few years we’ve had plenty of snow and even though we are restricted to half term week because of my son, the resort wasn’t too bad.

Great value skiing

Reviewed 2 May 2014

I’d definitely go back! Pas is quite lively if you’re a young group who want pub crawls, drinks, music etc.
In terms of skiing these days, the packages here are very reasonable in terms of budget when you factor in travel, accommodation, ski hire, pass etc. Going out to eat and drink is also very reasonable.
You can have lessons if you’re fairly new, the tuition is well priced and all the guys speak really good English. If you’ve been skiing a few times, don’t be afraid to ski the whole area. There’s a lot of skiing for intermediate and advanced skiers because you have such a massive place to explore – we skied over to Soldeu which was really nice. Because the resort is moderately high, you usually have good snow here until the middle of March. We’ve always had good snow (weirdly both weeks here the last day has been the bad weather day, but you never know what you’re going to get when you’re skiing!).
The way to find out where to ski / eat / drink and what to do is to speak to the locals, who I’ve always found friendly and helpful.

Nice place and lots to explore

Reviewed 25 Apr 2014

I hadn’t been to Pas de la Casa or Andorra before but I found it really nice.
It’s a reasonable resort and wasn’t too busy; there are plenty of slopes available and the lifts have been updated and are really efficient.
We were here in March and the snow was pretty good.
There aren’t a huge amount of difficult runs, there are a couple of nice black ones which I ended up doing a few times each.
The wider lift pass opens up miles more runs so there’s definitely more than enough to ski.

Ticks all the boxes

Reviewed 24 Apr 2014

It isn’t the 3 Valleys but there’s plenty to do - it’s definitely underrated and ticks all the boxes for me. If you’re 20-40 and like beer and eating, you’re going to have a good time.
We usually go late in the season and the last couple of years I’ve been there I’ve had great snow.
There are no black runs of sorts but if you want to go on nice wide blue runs there’s plenty of that – nothing too challenging but enough to do in a week. I took a lot of newbies there this year and they loved it; if you want to learn this is definitely the place to go as there are plenty of beginner slopes and then when you’re more confident, you can go up over the top and find more lifts to go up and down.
The people are really friendly and everything is duty free so you have lots of perfume shops etc. Everything is really cheap and there are some really nice bars and entertainment places. It’s a three and a half hour transfer but you would get the same elsewhere.

So cheap compared to Alps & skiing always good

Reviewed 22 Apr 2014

I’ve skied here since I was a kid and the skiing is fine, it’s always decent in Andorra. Pas de la Casa is more like intermediates and above but if you go over to Soldeu there’s more for beginners.
Everything is quite cheap compared to places like France, there’s a rib shack where you just pay 15 euros for all you can eat ribs and I only paid 13 euros for a 3 litre bottle of vodka which is pretty good!
Pas is probably more for younger groups... in terms of après on the mountain and skiing down when you’re drunk there’s nowhere like Folie Douce in France but the bars etc in town are really good.
