Not recommended, although the resort of Pila certainly is

Reviewed 22 May 2014

I wouldn’t really recommend this hotel. I got this as a last minute deal and it was a good price, but really I wanted to stay at the Hotel Lion Noir where my friends were staying (but it was fully booked). I liked Pila a lot and I would come back, but if I did come back I wouldn’t come here, I would rather stay at the Lion Noir. The views were better there. The Pila 2000 was ok, but it was half built into the mountain side so it felt like a bit of a bunker. It was however clean and warm (and waterproof!).
The food was variable. Some of it was really good, and breakfast was good (the usual selection of stuff). But it was a bit hit and miss at dinner. There was a set menu of about 4 courses, so you picked what you wanted for dinner at breakfast time, there was a bit of choice.

Fantastic resort with lots of good off-piste

Reviewed 22 May 2014

This resort is fantastic. I’d give it top marks. It’s a magnificent location; the ski area is set in a big bowl, so it’s very easy to find your way around. It’s beautiful. It’s hard to get lost here, the layout is really good. All the runs come back down to the same place. It’s almost like it’s been designed like that.
The pistes are lovely, they are well groomed (they kept grooming them overnight) and we had good conditions. We had about 2 foot fresh snow. There was some good off-piste if you go up to the top and ski round the edge of the big bowl. It was endless. After 2 days there were still untracked lines.
It’s a good resort for beginners and intermediates, especially intermediates, there are lots of red runs. I didn’t get bored at all and I’m an experienced skier (I used to compete).
It’s a steep, twisty road up to the village. There isn’t much in town, there’s a few places but I wouldn’t say it’s roaring nightlife. The local mountain restaurants serve fantastic Italian food.
We came here because we like the Dolomites but we wanted something a bit closer – the transfer to Pila is shorter.
