Not pretentious, comfy warm, enough electric points, quite basic but not rough, small but lovely bar.
Suited us well, very well located 10 minutes in ski boots to the train, in ordinary shoes 5 minutes. Food was nice, we had half board. It was very nice, people in the restaurant very nice, we felt comfortable at home. One of the party's brother was in the area and they accommodated him for dinner one night without any fuss, very easy to add them.
The ski room at the hotel was fantastic, plenty of space, an entire cellar lots of benches, so good.
I think the only that let us down is 2 days of bad weather but we had 4 days of beautiful sunshine.
Zermatt is very expensive, lift passes, coffee & beer. Just to say all the arrangements regarding trave lwent smoothly no issues at all.

We had a wonderful week, the Perren is a really nice hotel. Its location is pretty handy as it’s near the bus stops and lifts and just a 5 minute walk from the town which was perfect.
We didn’t use the spa and pool but the bedrooms were big and roomy. The beds were alright, not quite like home but they gave us a couple of pillows to make it more comfortable. The food was fine, with set menus you either like what you get or you don’t, but it was alright for us.
If you enjoy 5* hotels and expect the Hilton you’ll find it a bit basic, but if you want somewhere clean and pleasant it’s a solid 4/5.

The hotel was a lot better than I expected given the price we paid and the star rating. We had a big room, almost like a suite which was useful as there were 8 of us and we could all sit together for drinks in the evenings. It wasn’t plush but it was clean and the beds were comfortable, everything worked.
The food in the restaurant was really good, better than I had expected. They had a set four or five course menu every evening, always with a buffet salad bar and a variety of food, all very well cooked. My daughter is lactose intolerant and they catered pretty well for her which can sometimes be a problem in hotels, but wasn’t here.
My only criticism would be that there’s quite a nice lounge area which in theory would have been nice for pre dinner drinks but, because there were some kitchens below, it had really strong cooking smells in the evening and smelt of disinfectant in the morning after they had cleaned everything up. This didn’t affect us as there’s a bar attached to the hotel where we went for drinks and cakes after skiing, but it would have been nice to have the option of some pre dinner drinks there if we wanted.
The hotel is pretty well located with an easy walk to the lift station that takes about 5 minutes. There’s a ski hire shop opposite where you can leave your skis and boots so you don’t have to walk with them. Zermatt town isn’t the easiest place to get to the mountain from, but it couldn’t have been easier than from where we stayed.
I stayed here with my family and my sister’s family; the kids are all quite grown up so I can’t really comment on what it’s like for young families. It was good for the group of 8 of us though, we had a table for 8 in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner every day and they coped with us fine, so I would recommend it to groups.
