Second stay in Cal Ruiz, unfortunately got norovirus

Reviewed 6 Jun 2016

We’d stayed at the Cal Ruiz last year, and our main reason for returning is because it was so cheap. It’s a normal ski hotel really, a bit out of town but that suited us. If it wasn’t for the fact that we got ill it would have been a different experience, however all ten of us got norovirus for the whole week so I don’t think we will be returning.

We all liked it

Reviewed 17 May 2016

Overall a really good hotel, we were a group of nine and everyone was happy with it. The food was good, they laid on a big buffet every night with maybe 7/8 meals to choose from – some local and other more usual dishes like chicken breast, lasagne…
The twin rooms were ideal for us and fine in terms of space.
The hotel is on the edge of town but it’s only a 5 minute walk to the ski slopes.

Hoping to return!

Reviewed 17 Jun 2015

We had a brilliant week and are already trying to rebook it for next year! The hotel is warm, clean and comfy and the staff were very helpful. Its location is central enough that you’re within walking distance of everything, without having any issues with noise. The food was good, there was loads of choice and you could eat as much as you wanted. It was always hot rather than lukewarm and breakfasts and dinners were at good hours so we had plenty of time to get meals.

Can’t fault apart from location

Reviewed 13 May 2014

The food was nice which was a bonus with my 14 year old son – they had a good variety of stuff, all buffet with bacon and eggs at breakfast time and 6-8 different things to pick between in the evenings (plus salad). They had a small bar which was good and had a happy hour (I think between 5-6) – the beer was buy one get one free and they also did fizzy drinks which my son had. The good thing about the happy hour was that as long as you bought the first drink within the time, you could come back down and get the free one whenever you wanted.
We had a family room which had 3 single beds and was fine with plenty of room and lots of hot water.
The only thing that was a drawback was the location; you’re on the main road close to the shops but it took a 10-15 minute walk to get to the slopes – you could take a short cut through the shopping arcade but it was still a bit of a walk. We were snowboarders so walking with our stuff wasn’t as hard as it would be with ski boots... I think there might have been lockers near the lifts which could make it easier.
Other than the location, I couldn’t fault it and we knew what the location was before we booked. I would definitely recommend it to other families as long as they don’t mind the walk.

Overall pretty good and no complaints

Reviewed 25 Apr 2014

I stayed here with one other friend and we had a room with a double and 2 singles which was more than enough, bathroom was fine. As a hotel it’s not out of bounds to anyone and serves its purpose pretty well, I’d recommend it to anyone really!
The hotel was absolutely fine, nicely placed on the edge of the town (but it’s not a very big town so this wasn’t a problem) and about a five minute walk to the slopes. Inside, everything was clean and tidy and run by really nice people – the place isn’t exceptional but then I didn’t expect it to be. We had a half board package and the food was nice, a good range of different things with dishes like burgers and pastas – not the best in the world but good enough.
