Grand Etoile, Alpe D'Huez

Reviewed 14 Oct 2014

We recently returned from our holiday and thoroughly enjoyed the Alpe d'huez ski area which catered for every level of skier in our party. Major positives were the chalet staff Nathan and Gillian who were great hosts and cooks. The chalet was well appointed and we used the sauna and jacuzzi daily after a long day on the slopes.
On the down side was the visits from the rep who seemed to feel the chalet was somewhere to hangout and grab a free meal and other staff who popped in for a chat or for provisions. We were very disappointed at how they loudly discussed future guests on the transfer bus - not typical of our experience of this company over the years.

Chalet grande etoile, Feb 2014

Reviewed 14 Oct 2014

Great chalet facilities and good room sizes. Hot tub and sauna were very welcome after a tough weeks skiing.
It is positioned as a luxury chalet, although I would say more top end of an average chalet. Having said that Grand Etoile is in a great location in the old town, a minute walk from AB skiset hire and 10-15 minutes to the main chair lifts of Alpe d'Huez via the lobster pot lift.

I wish I could be as positive about the service that accompanied the chalet during our week. Where to start!
No first night briefing on chalet rules, meal times, fire exits etc.
No mention of how to use the hot tub and electric sauna
No information provided on ski hosting, local activities etc. Completely substandard service, I think I averaged 2 bowls of porridge the whole week despite asking every morning and arriving on time for breakfast. Thank god for the replacement cover Lynn and Gillian, the company’s saving grace.

Great chalet in nice location

Reviewed 14 Oct 2014

Stayed here recently and received the usual high standard of service I have come to expect from this company. The chalet is close to the basket lift that will take you up to the main piste area. You can ski back to within 50m of the chalet too which is a bonus. If nightlife if your thing, all the main bars and clubs are 5 mins walk, yet the chalet itself is in a nice quiet part of the resort. It is a cosy, very well decorated chalet and the hot tub is awesome. The living area is a bit cramped, but the positives generally speaking definitely outweigh the negatives. The quality of food was good and there was lots of it! A minor criticism would be that it was a bit rich for our liking, so check you have a few notches left on your belt before you go! I would definitely stay here again.

Big and small stars in this firmament

Reviewed 3 Nov 2013

Few chalets have the benefit of offering such a great location, but the Grande Etoile (big star), partnered with the Petite Etoile (little star) have one of the addresses in town, right in the centre of this top-tier ski resort. Similarly, it is within a snowball’s throwing distance from the basket lift, just 150yards away. Roll out of bed for a big breakfast, nip down to the shops to pick up ski gear, then jump straight on to the slopes. With this great location, you don’t have to traipse around for anything - just get up and get cracking!
