Cervinia group holiday

Reviewed 22 Dec 2020

Cervinia ticked so many boxes for me. Skiing wise it’s a lot of fun – plenty of cruisy blues and reds to choose from, plus enjoyable and easily accessed off-piste for the great powder it can frequently get (and we received, thankfully!) Cervinia served our mixed-ability group well. The apres was surprisingly lively with cosy bars as well as modern night clubs. The resort has a friendly atmosphere, as Italian resorts do, and the food – it goes without saying – was great everywhere. Reasonably priced too! Staying in Cervinia is a great way to ski the Matterhorn area without the price-tag of Zermatt and a much shorter transfer.

Nice, but a long transfer

Reviewed 10 Jun 2016

Really liked Cervinia, but the two and a half hour transfer would put me off returning. We didn’t venture into town much as the all-inclusive Club Med had all the entertainment we needed, but the skiing was nice. Some days the weather was fantastic, other days it was foggy and bottom runs were getting a bit slushy. But that’s the chance you take later in the season. I would say that the ski area was best for intermediates – it was great for our family.

Family Christmas in Cervinia

Reviewed 13 Apr 2016

Cervinia’s really nice and we’re already looking to go back. The slopes were ideal for us as beginners to skiing, and the whole place is really pretty with the most amazing views. It was only a bit of a downer that we didn’t have any fresh snow on Christmas week, but we still had a fantastic time.

Cheap way to ski Zermatt

Reviewed 18 Nov 2015

Great views of the Matterhorn, snow-sure, great food and a better price but still allowing you to ski the Zermatt area. Buying the joint Cervinia&Zermatt pass costs a hundred pounds less if you buy it in Cervinia than it does if you buy it in Zermatt (it did in 2013 anyway). Nice intermediate slopes, a real pleasure to ski here towards the end of the season.

I love the place

Reviewed 18 May 2014

Cervinia is a great place for beginners and intermediates as the runs are like motorways, very wide and not too taxing. If you’re a good intermediate there are other runs, I wouldn’t say it’s an advanced resort but there are a couple of black runs if you want them. We had a carving clinic one day that was pretty good. You can get over to Zermatt if you want to but it depends which pass you buy.
It’s not a massive place and there’s not a lot to do besides the skiing – you walk up the main street a couple of times and you’ve covered it – there are a couple of supermarkets if you need that and plenty of bars.
Our holiday was pretty early in the season and we were a bit apprehensive going so early but as we got to our hotel, there were some people leaving who had enjoyed the week before. Cervinia has a lot of man made snow which is how they generate the base – we arrived on the Sunday and had a foot of snow on the Wednesday so some of our ski days were really good.

Beautiful scenery and the opportunity to ski over to Zermatt

Reviewed 16 May 2014

We’ve been to Cervinia before, it’s very nice. It’s stunning there, beautiful scenery. People think that the Cervinia ski area is quite small, but you can ski over to Zermatt which makes it larger than you think. Our teenagers wanted a snowpark – that was the only thing that was missing. The skiing is good though, there are nice wide pistes. You can also go snowshoeing and go karting. The snowshoeing was brilliant. We didn’t have a guide - you can just rent snowshoes from any of the places in town and then go up on the tracks, it’s easy, you can’t get lost. You are up with the skiers and there are signs.

Typical Italian resort

Reviewed 16 May 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here. The skiing was fine, we had a couple of glorious days and then quite a few snowy ones with bad visibility. We didn’t do much challenging terrain because of the weather. I’d say the resort is best suited to beginners to high intermediate level skiers. Cervinia itself is a typical Italian ski town. It was obviously built in the 50s but they are trying to make it look traditional and Alpine. There are bars and restaurants, we didn’t really go out though. The ski school was good and it was social to ski with others, we used Ski School Breuil.

Good beginner skiing

Reviewed 8 May 2014

Cervinia is a nice small resort – it’s quite basic but this was my first time skiing and it’s a good place for beginners with quite a few blue runs. There isn’t loads of nightlife and this is something that would make us rate it higher.

Pretty unbeatable

Reviewed 29 Mar 2014

I’d been walking in Cervinia in the summertime and always wanted to go back in the winter, and it definitely lived up to my expectations – it’s pretty unbeatable.
It has a brilliant ski area with a link over to Zermatt if you pay for the full pass (although 2 out of 6 days I couldn’t get across because of high winds). If conditions are good, there’s so much terrain on both sides. There’s a brilliant red run from Kleine Matterhorn by the boarder that goes 2000m down to a village below Cervinia and the whole place has fantastic scenery with the Matterhorn.
I think Cervinia is pretty quiet and not well known for its après, although there is nightlife if you want it (I didn’t so I can’t recommend anywhere good!).

Good fun, tons of snow in March

Reviewed 28 Mar 2014

The skiing is good fun, I’m an easy blue skier and there was plenty for me. My friend’s son skied over into Zermatt but I stayed in the Cervinia area.
For après, we really liked Lino’s bar. It’s a traditional place that’s all been done up recently with open glass. If you go between 4 and 6 the drinks are half price and they’ll also put some food on for you.
We weren’t that impressed with the food in the Dragon.
The snow was fine in Cervinia in March, in fact one day we couldn’t ski because there was too much of it!

Will be going back again!

Reviewed 7 Mar 2014

We have skied in Cervinia a few times before and will be going back again. The resort is great for beginners / intermediates, could possibly be a little bit boring if you're an expert but you can always go over the other side to Zermatt, where it’s prettier and narrower. Cervinia isn’t a pretty resort like Zermatt – there aren’t any tree runs, but they are nice and wide and long.
The snow has always been fantastic when we’ve been here as it’s quite a high resort. We’ve skied in resorts in France but really like Cervinia – the people are all nice, we met Dutch, Belgians, Swiss, Israeli, South Africans, Malaysians so it was really mixed.
We really got to know the people we stayed with and are meeting some of them in our holiday – one of them lives in Whistler and skis in Cervinia every year so this shows you how good it is!
