Trysil Trysilfjellet Half Term holidays

We could go on - and on - about how good Norway is for families – and Trysil is certainly no exception. Whether you’re bringing the brood or an adult-only group, this resort is brilliant for a half term ski holiday. Norwegian schools don’t tend to take their winter break until the end of February, which means the British half term weeks are usually nice and quiet.

Though low in altitude, the ski area here gets a generous dousing of snow each winter. Daylight hours are a little longer than you get over Christmas and New Year, and slopeside floodlights are on hand to ensure you enjoy a proper ski day.

If you’re a beginner skier or newbie, the ski schools and beginner runs are excellent. We love the children’s ski areas here, which have very gentle slopes and heated shelters to keep small skiers toasty warm. There’s ample terrain for more experienced skiers and snowboarders too, including the SkiStar Snow Park.

Other activities on half term week usually include sledding, bowling and events with the much-loved mascot, Valle the snowman. For children too young to ski, childcare centres at Trysil Turistsenter and Trysil Høyfjellssenter looked after tots from 2 years and up last time we checked.

Pick a B&B hotel if you’re keen to try local restaurants throughout your stay (we like Peppes Pizza and Laaven’s grill buffet). Or to make budgeting easy, half board will include breakfasts and suppers, served in your hotel.

This is a super time of year for skiing, whether in Scandinavia, mainland Europe or North America. If you want to check out holidays in other resorts as well as Trysil, you can browse all ski holidays for half term worldwide here.
