When making the New Year party invites this year, you know you’ll get a kick out of writing ‘The Dolomites’ when it gets to naming location. Grab a few friends, rent your skis and pre-order the Proseco for a stunning New Year’s week on the mountains.
With the various World Cup descents and Sella Ronda carousel; you won’t be short of achievable New Year Resolutions. Lack of snow shouldn’t be an excuse to get out of them either... the pistes at and above 2000m are generally promising for snow conditions and the snow canons will be working their socks off if any extra dusting is necessary.
The sky above the Dolomites flashes up with all sorts of colours, bangs and crackles come the all-important count down as the villages usually put on their own firework displays. Previous years have seen a gathering of people in the main squares with music and dancing and some of the ski schools organise a torchlit descent too. It’s always a good idea to see what each resort is planning for this New Year because individual resorts will have things like ice-skating displays, freestyle shows and formation skiing by local instructors. Keep an eye on Bar Saltos in Selva, La Cerci in Ortisei, Bilbo’s in Cortina and the Gassl Bar in Kronplatz which have always been very lively on the 31st.
