Arinsal was established in the early 1970s when the Western end of the La Massana Valley was developed. It is an attractive Catalan village, but rather spread out. It is very lively and rapidly expanding (expect building work!). The resort operates a ski bus service between Arinsal and La Massana

There's a sports centre in Ordino approximately 5km (3 miles) away. Other choices include The Palau de Gel (Ice Palace) in Canillo, approximately 25km (16 miles) from Arinsal, which is one of the largest ice rinks in Europe. It also has a swimming pool, squash courts, sauna, gymnasium and restaurant. The Caldea complex in Andorra la Vella is a great place to if you can handle soaking in a beautiful hot spring under a star filled sky. The facilities are very impressive with linked indoor and outdoor pools, fountains and waterfalls, saunas, Jacuzzis, Turkish baths, hydrotherapy, sunbeds and massage. "La Massana" by any other name

The Andorran resort is also known as La Massana and has common misspellings:

The direction which the various La Massana slopes face can make or break your ski holiday. To guarantee good snow conditions, choose a resort with piste which face the right way for the time of year you're travelling.

- In the coldest winter months of January and February pick a resort with sunny south facing slopes, so your days on the snow doesn't feel like a polar expedition. Conversely, in the warmest spring skiing months of March and especially April, a resort with cool and shady north facing trails will ensure you're not riding on slush, but benefitting from best late season snow. The best destinations have areas which face in all directions so that you're guaranteed greating conditions whatever the weather. La Massana has slopes facing NE N.
