Overview - hotel description - Star Arctic Hotel description

The new Star Arctic Hotel opened it's doors in December 2017 to welcome its first guests to its modern, Lappish-style suites. A great choice for a special occasion, it is located at the top of Kaunispaä fell, away from the light pollution of the village centre and an excellent spot from which to view the Northern Lights. Guests can sit back and relax in their room to hopefully see them from the large panels windows in each of the rooms.

All of the suites, located in their own buildings a short walk from the main reception and restaurant area, are duplex with a large glass window looking out over the main village. The bedroom area is located at the top of the duplex stairs (fairly steep), and have their own north-facing window. The hotel is located approximately 2km from the Saariselka centre and excursion pick-up point, which can be reached by ski bus or 30-minutes' pleasant walk. The hotel also provides a shuttle service on request at a small fee of €5 per person per way, paid locally. The hotel has a public sauna, well-equipped gym with large glass windows, modern restaurant and lobby bar, all located in the main building. Our prices are based on half board for all dates. Guests staying between 23 -26 December will have full board included on these nights, and those staying for 25 December and 31 December will enjoy extended buffet dinners at the hotel.

This package holiday to Star Arctic Hotel in Saariselka, Finland / Lapland departs Sunday 12th January 2020, for a 7 night stay on a "half board" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. It's not included in the basic price of your holiday and is usually paid locally. For reference, the average charged in winter 15/16 was between 50p and £2 per person, per night.

Europe’s northernmost ski resort, Saariselkä is 250km up from the Arctic Circle, not far from the Russian border. One of the main resorts in Lapland – the legendary home of Father Christmas – it has snow sure skiing, a Christmas-card-esque village and heaps of festive activities all in one place. The village itself is surrounded by forest and full of winter wonderland charm, with its own little chapel, some shops and restaurants and accommodation ranging from spa hotels to traditional log cabins. Everythin...
Spread across the Iisakkipää and Kaunispää fells, the ski area is modestly-sized, with 5 ski lifts taking you up to 15 slopes. The bus is quite regular and does drop offs at the top of the slopes and the base. From the base, one chairlift takes you to the top of Kaunispää (the rest of the lifts are T bars). All pistes take you back to the same part of the valley, where you’ll find campfires and cafés to warm up and rebuild your energy stores. This isn’t a challenging ski area and the slopes would best...
With only 15 slopes, this isn’t meant to be a resort where the sole focus is skiing and there are tonnes of other activities to fill up the week. Snowmobiling, reindeer and husky safaris really are as fun as they look and all are a great way to enjoy the surroundings. For something a bit different, try your hand at ice fishing or follow one of the more well-trodden snowshoe route. Even better, 15 minutes away by road is Santa’s resort, Kakslauttanen for a once in a lifetime meeting with the man himself. Fro...
