The charming village Voss has a long skiing history and is known as the extreme sport capital of Norway. Largest ski resort in western Norway, with slopes for all levels, makes it one of the most popular. Train to the centre offers direct access to the ski area via Voss Gondol, this Hangursbanen is the highlight of the resort taking you up to the ski area with splendid views and depositing you in the heart of the ski area and the varied activities on offer.

The nearest airport to Voss is Bergen Flesland (BGO) at 100 km or about 1h45 by car.

What's the ski area like in Voss?

Voss has 40km of slopes, ideal for beginners and families. Slopes are predominately green and blue with 3 dedicated children’s areas. For the more experienced there are the Giant slalom and SuperG slopes, used for international competitions. There is also some exciting off-piste to be found.

You access the ski resort directly with the Voss Gondol, situated next to the train station, it takes 9 min. The other access point to the ski area is at Bavallen about 5km from Voss.

Night skiing Tue, Thu, Fri 10km of flood lit trails all levels. There are free ski races throughout the season. There is a terrain park and plenty for cross country trails to explore.

What is Voss like for Beginner skiers?

There are 25km of beginner trails nicely spread out throughout the ski area and many at the top, allowing even those skiing for the first time to see the great views of the Fjords and forests. There are three fun kids areas which area also good beginners. Trollbakken, located where the gondola stops, has a magic carpet and gentle slope perfect for starting out. Grebbesbakken, at resort level near Bavallen, is good for progressing at individual pace. Badnakrokjen where the runs are more varied is good for a challenge. 

What is Voss like for Intermediate skiers?

There are 8km of red piste to move onto once you have warmed up on the cruisey blues. The off-piste powder trails are also on the easy side so a great place to take your first foray off piste.

What is Voss like for Advanced skiers?

The 12 km of advanced piste, include the FIS world cup course Storslalomløypa and the downhill Utforløypa. There are abundant back country areas for the adventurous.

Voss Ski og tursenter is a perfect place for cross country skiers. There 18km of groomed trails around the lake and at the top of the ski area which means you can see the beautiful scenery from all view points.

Voss Restaurants

Hangurstoppen, on the mountain access by Gondola, is the largest restaurant in Voss, at 818 m above sea level. Elva restaurant in the Hotel Elva, with large lake facing windows for fantastic background to the great gourmet pick. Try Malin Sushi for Norwegian seafood specialities and the restaurant Elysee in the park hotel, wine lovers will appreciate one of the biggest collections of wine with over 45 000 bottles.

Voss Après Ski

A great party venue is the SkiBarBar, in the Bavallen area, with an outside terrace. The Hangur 818 Bar at Hangurstoppen, the Voss Gondol top stop, offers a laid back apres spot with awesome views of the Fjords and ski area.

Voss Activites for Non-skiers

Plenty of non skiing activities on offer, try snow-shoe trekking, tobogganing or a ride on a snowmobile.  In resort there are faciliites for indoor skydiving and bowling as well as an Aqua park and a cinema.

Voss celebrates Christmas with activities like night skiing and special program with events like the “home for Christmas” gathering held at the Hangurstoppen restaurant and the Christmas bath. This usually held on the Monday before Christmas , donning Santa hats participants take an ice bath in the fjords.

Bring in the New year with a fireworks display enjoyed from elevated vantage points. The New Years Eve Gala features living art, a variety show and a live band providing music to dance the New year in.
