Set up by two friends in the seventies and still privately owned, Mark Warner’s all about active, sociable skiing.
Their two most fundamental ingredients for mountain holidays are: a) a snow-sure ski resort and b) a comfortable, well-located place to stay. Whether you’re a family, couple, skiing solo, or a big bunch of friends, chances are this company has you covered.
These popular packages will whisk you to snow-sure resorts in France and Austria - the likes of Tignes, Les Deux Alpes, La Plagne, Meribel and St Anton. Flights from regional UK airports (usually on Sundays) along with transfers to your chosen chalet or chalet hotel are usually included. Fully recognising the fact that some guests prefer to make their own travel arrangements, Mark Warner also offer accommodation only prices for some of their chalet hotels in France. The vast majority of these holidays come on a catered basis with 3 meals a day - more on that below.
If you’re coming with young children, the family-focussed properties here traditionally come with kid’s clubs for ages 0-12 and often free evening childcare’s provided during school holiday weeks. They work with hand-picked ski schools for private or group lessons and staff will usually be on hand to usher young learners to their meeting point, leaving you to enjoy the pistes, go back to bed or whatever your heart desires.
Lift passes can be pre-booked before your holiday and ready and waiting for you at your accommodation. The same goes for ski or board hire if you need it.
Mark Warner holidays are fully ATOL protected.
Chalet hotels are Mark Warner’s main type of accommodation and they’re no tiddlers, with some sleeping more than 100 guests. Besides bedrooms of varying sizes, there are spaces for guests to relax, like lounge areas with grand fireplaces and comfy armchairs. Many also have shared facilities like pools, saunas and hot tubs.
These chalets, usually sleeping around 12 each, can be booked exclusively for one group or shared between smaller sets of skiers/boarders. From modern chic to trad alpine pine, this operator does a lovely job of achieving a consistent standard of comfort throughout their properties. Sometimes a hot tub’s thrown into the mix too, so don’t forget to pack your swimmers.
The usual catering package on these holidays is based around three daily meals - a wholesome brekkie, afternoon tea (feat. fresh cakes), and a 3-course evening meal (with wine), rounded up with a cheeseboard. Your chef might serve a mix of international favourites, be that good old chilli con carne or French raclette… They’re dab hands when it comes to most dietary requirements, please do mention these to us before you book though, just to be sure. Staff traditionally take one day of these holidays off, so there will be a bit less on offer for breakfast (e.g. continental only, not cooked) and an evening meal won’t be served, giving you the perfect excuse try one of the local restaurants in the resort.
Usually if there are kids in the chalet, a separate children’s high tea will be served a bit earlier on than the adults’ dinner.
This operator whips out some cracking ‘Flash sales’ from time to time, especially on off-peak weeks and when the departure date is just around the corner.
Their Black Friday ski deals are often some of the best around.
