Situated in the Valais canton and rubbing shoulders with the Italian Alps, Zermatt sits at the foot of the Matterhorn (a national landmark of Switzerland) surrounded by nearly a third of the 4,000m peaks in the Alps. As a ski resort, it’s hard to see what Zermatt is lacking. With alpine charm, snow sure altitudes, world class slopes, breathtaking scenery, off slope entertainment and a huge pisted area with efficient lift system, this legendary ski destination seemingly has it all. Home of mountaineering and ...
There are 200km of runs in the local area alone and a massive 360km overall if you count the Italian side of the Matterhorn too. Together with Cervina, Zermatt forms the "Matterhorn Ski Paradise" where Sno lovers of all abilities are blessed with high altitude terrain - and lots of it! If you’re a keen beginner you will love Zermatt, which has convenient nursery slopes, lovely wide pistes to practice on and much more once you’ve conquered the snowplough. In Zermatt’s 9 nightclubs and 35 bars, you’ll find a range of scenes where you can soak in the atmosphere until 3am. "Fantastic hotel, one of the best we've stayed in"

The Wallisserhof is a fantastic place. We were only in Zermatt for a few days as we had to go home early due to injury, but as far as the hotel goes our stay was brilliant. The staff couldn’t do enough for you. They made a point of knowing you and the owner came round to introduce themselves and sent a follow-up email to check whether we were ok after we had to leave. Some reviews I’d read suggested problems with noise but we didn’t have any from our room during our stay. The mattress could have been better but overall the room was very nice: basic but clean and roomy. Their attention to detail was excellent; we’d return to find our bedding and pyjamas laid out and they even left you a little message saying they hoped you’d had a good day, with a little chocolate or sweet. The restaurant was absolutely fantastic and the food was really good. It was Swiss/French with an Italian influence, the sort of food I’d pay good money for in a restaurant. The chef was obviously very experienced and came to explain what we were eating each night. They made a point of saying that if you didn’t like either of the dishes on the menu, they’d make something else for you. The only thing that would improve the hotel is if it was on the mountainside, it’s in the middle of town which is fine for exploring Zermatt, but to get to the ski slopes wasn’t very easy. While in some resorts you can ski out and be on the mountain within ten minutes, here it took an hour to an hour and a half to get to the top of the mountain (but you are trading the ease of accessibility for staying in a beautiful place). It wasn’t really an expensive package but for all the experiences we’ve had on ski holidays over the last 5 years, this was certainly the best hotel. I’d recommend the whole package. If we come back to Zermatt (and we will because we’d like to see more of it – perhaps in the summer) we’d stay here again.
