Please note: due to the location of this hotel we don’t recommend it for complete beginners - the ski school is at the base area which will mean using the shuttle bus or taxi (extra cost, approximately £25) to get to the base area. It’s an easy run down from the hotel for intermediates, but not for complete beginners.

The Hotel Skarsnuten is such a special place to stay. With modern Scandinavian design and extensive use of natural materials, it really feels like you are in a secluded ski lodge - and that isn’t far from the truth. Perched near the top of the ski area, overlooking the valley, the views are incredible.

The best place to watch the sunset over the mountains is in the Brygga 11 restaurant, with its floor-to-ceiling windows – plus its award-winning chef serves up some superb traditional Norwegian cuisine.

Another way to end the day is looking out over the valley from one of the hotel’s two outdoor Jacuzzis, where you can even have a glass of bubbles served to you. If you’ve got the energy for some après, there’s a DJ on in the multi-level bar and lounge from 3pm until dinnertime at 7pm – plus if the sun’s shining the doors to the terrace will be open and the grill fired up.

You can’t beat the Skarsnuten for slopeside access either – just clip on your skis in the morning and there's a lift station just below the hotel. You don't even have to worry about getting home early, as thanks to night-skiing running four times a week, you can ski back to the hotel until 7.30pm most nights.

If you do want to get down to the village, it’s easily accessible using the ski bus. The timetable is limited during the morning and evenings – but then you won’t want to leave this little mountain oasis.
