Do you dream of skiing down the same mountains where Bulgarian Kings of old once hunted? Oh, right. Just us then. Well, how about a ski holiday at a snip of the price you'd pay in France or Switzerland, with exhilarating views, booming après ski and large doses of sunshine? That's more like it. Here in Borovets, you'll experience a resort steeped in tradition and culture, and of course the fantastic skiing opportunities you'd expect to find at Bulgaria's 1st ski region. Young skiers will love Borokids Park, where the magic carpet helps them get to grips with the snow. Ski lessons can be booked with one of the local ski schools like Hunters and Yanakiev and the Sitnyakovo Royal Residence Ski Way’s wide, gentle slope for some cruisey confidence building. Each of the 3 ski areas offers intermediates something a little different. The Yastrebetz is home to long winding slopes, including the lengthy Yastrebetz 1, which snakes its way through pine trees back to the resort. Ventu...
Despite Bansko’s up and coming popularity, Borovets remains the party capital of Bulgarian ski resorts, with vibrant nightlife guaranteed as soon as you’re off the slopes. The ever-friendly bar hosts at places like Bobby’s and Samokov offer unbelievably cheap local beer, and once the Bulgarian Rakia shots start flowing, you’ll understand why people are back in Borovets year after year. Borovets is far from just another ‘lads holiday’ ski destination. Instead, the country’s oldest ski resort lets a li...

The Hotel Rila is really good. The rooms are clean modern and the hotel is really well supplied everywhere. It is just what you need for a family holiday and has a great swimming pool too if you need it. The meals were good with a lot of choice every night. It’s buffet style, which is great with the kids, but there is also a smaller restaurant in the hotel which is a la carte The location is perfect for families, being ski in ski out and right at the base of the slopes. It made things so much easier, especially with children. It was so nice to be able to sit in the hotel bar and watch the kids playing outside in the snow. Bulgaria is great for family holiday as it’s very relaxed, low key and informal. It’s great value for money as well, compared to the lift pass prices etc in the Alps.

"The location is brilliant !"

One of the best ski resort hotels we have been too. We would be happy with this hotel anywhere in the world! The rooms are spacious and modern. They have everything you would want as a skier. Not a bad thing to say about the hotel! Staff were topnotch. We really had a great time! Half board basis was good. At other hotels we have stayed at in Borovets, we would always go out for dinner as the hotel buffets were not good. But at this hotel it was the opposite, we stayed in every night! The ski resort is quite small and the amount of snow was not great. But it was ideal being ski in/ski out. You walk into the hotel and lockers are right there. Lifts are very close by too. 4.5/5 We would definitely go back. It is the best hotel in Borovets/Bansko. It’s the most expensive, but 100% worth it. The location is the best thing by far.

"No problems at all, it was fantastic."

Absolutely great! No problems, fantastic. It was recently refurbished and the rooms were better than expected. Staff were super helpful when we lost a handbag, helped recover it. Good selection of food and variety. Buffet was decent compared to other hotels they have stayed at across Europe. Not a lot of vegetarian options though. Gondola had queues, was a few hundred metres from the hotel. Didn’t have to wait more than a minute for a lift. Ski in was ideal! Might be worth getting skis at another shop as everyone would be going to same place and the queue times were long. 4.5/5
