Overview: hotel description: Hotel Nermo description

The Nermo family has been hosting guests in Hafjell since 1866 when hunters and fishermen stayed in the simple guest rooms of the family farm. The rustic setting may have changed, but the warm welcome certainly hasn’t.

Nowadays, the Hotel Nermo is a modern mountain retreat. And has been voted Norway’s best ski boutique hotel three times since 2016, thanks to its excellent customer service and attention to detail.

It’s tucked in a quiet spot outside Hafjell, and while it’s a 30 minutes’ walk to the centre of the resort and the nearest lift, you can hop on the regular shuttle service and be there in no time.

nside, the décor has a Scandinavian feel with painted pine panelling and a neutral colour scheme. Grab a drink from the bar then head to the lounge, where an open wood fire and plush sofas add a touch of mountain cosiness. And as you’d expect in Norway, the hotel also has a sauna so you can warm up after a day on the slopes.

In the restaurant it’s all about regional dishes with locally sourced ingredients – try the moose sandwich and freshly-made apple cake, all washed down with some beer from the nearby brewery. You’ll get vouchers for lunch which you can use at mountain restaurants, so there’s no need to trek back to the hotel when hunger strikes. There's no lift access in this hotel.

The village of Hafjell can be found at the entrance of the Gudbrandsdalen valley, with a collection of hotels, cabins, restaurants and shops built in traditional chalet style. It’s the country’s third biggest ski resort, having grown since hosting the alpine skiing events in the ’94 Lillehammer Winter Olympics. Nine miles south of the ski resort, Lillehammer itself is a sizeable lakeside town, with a warm, villagey feel. Central Storgata’s wooden buildings painted in oranges, reds and greens and you’ll...
The children’s area at the bottom station has wide, gentle slopes and serves as the ski school’s meeting point. Take the gondola up to Mosetertoppen and you’ll find another children’s area with a mini snowpark and slalom as well as a lovely green forest trail. The 700m Fjelløypa green streams down from the Fjellheisen top station – a brilliant run to aim for towards the end of your first ski week. There are a number of blue and red runs all over the area, with favourites including the wide Hafjellheis...
If all that skiing leaves you hungry, grab a table at the Gaiastova restaurant up at the top of the area, for hearty lunches (they do amazing tapas) and incredible views. The Skavlen restaurant at Mosetertoppen has a brilliant menu for families and serves breakfast, lunch and great burgers and pizzas for dinner. Lillehammer has some lovely places to eat at, like Bryggerikjelleren with its arty, arched dining room and Nikkers on the waterside. For après, Woody’s is a smashing bar run by Brits, with live mu...
