Overview: hotel description: Hotel Du Col description

If you’re looking to stay close to the slopes then the Du Col will fit the bill. You can walk to the nearest lift in just one minute from the hotel, and you’re right in the village centre, so everything else is on your doorstep too.

The rooms have a modern feel, with simple, white walls and colourful prints of the Italian Alps to add a dash of mountain-inspired style. Downstairs, they’ve kept things more traditional in the bar and lounge. Knick-knacks and photos from days gone by are dotted around, and there are armchairs and sofas where you sit back and sip an afternoon tea or coffee.

Regional specialities are on the menu in the hotel restaurant each evening, and wine, water and soft drinks are included – perfect for refuelling post-ski. After your meal, wander downstairs to enjoy drinks and music in the hotel’s lively pub before heading to bed.

The wonderful thing about Sestriere is that it’s really easy to reach – only about an hour and a half by car from Turin airport. Things are just as convenient when you arrive: This was the first purpose built resort in the Alps (thanks to the owners of Fiat). While it won’t be found on any lists of the world’s prettiest ski towns, its handy location more than makes up for it - high on the mountainside in the Northern Province of Turin, near the Franco-Italian border. Most hotels are rated 3/4 stars, while ...
There’s a whopping 400km of slopes to explore here, and the fact that it hosted the 2006 winter Olympics is a fine mark of quality. Two local ski areas - Mount Sises and Motta - are accessible directly from the town and with the Milky Way lift pass in hand, you can ski far and wide across the Via Lattea. Sauze d'Oulx is easy to reach by gondola, and Sestriere’s also a super base for day trips across the border to Montgenevre in France. One of the best things for beginners is the price of ski lessons – which a...
Après-ski livens up at the weekends with the influx of local Italians who come to enjoy their free time in the town. During the week the resort is more relaxed but still offers a fun vibe and good nightlife with plenty of bars to wind down in and reminisce over the days adventures. Groups will always find great places to spend their evenings with a few drinks and delicious food. For those all-important après-ski drinks, Pinky’s Pizzeria is the place to be (and if you’ve worked up an appetite on the slopes, i...

"A big success"

Large Group from Pembrokeshire
5/ out of 5
We were moved at the last minute because of conditions and as we’re a big group, we were wary of finding somewhere that everyone was pleased with. I can honestly say everyone had a great time, it was a big, big success! Thank you Idalette for your help. The position was brilliant, you could ski out and it was right next to the ski school. The rooms were basic but really comfortable which is all you need. They made a big effort with a gala dinner for Christmas, it was a very Italian Christmas dinner which is what you want when you’re staying in Italy. The food was just as good for the rest of the week, a lot of the group were saying it was the best food they’d ever had on a ski holiday. My son has a severe nut allergy and they put such an effort into things, declaring the week nut free and doing their absolute best (there was one small hiccup but we didn’t mention it to them as they’d done so much for us). The overwhelming factor that made this holiday were the management and staff. They were brilliant.
