This package holiday to Hotel Alpenroyal in Zermatt, Switzerland departs Saturday 7th January 2017, for a 7 night stay on a "half board" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. It's not included in the basic price of your holiday and is usually paid locally. For reference, the average charged in winter 15/16 was between 50p and £2 per person, per night.

Situated in the Valais canton and rubbing shoulders with the Italian Alps, Zermatt sits at the foot of the Matterhorn (a national landmark of Switzerland) surrounded by nearly a third of the 4,000m peaks in the Alps. There are 200km of runs in the local area alone and a massive 360km overall if you count the Italian side of the Matterhorn too. If you’re a keen beginner you will love Zermatt, which has convenient nursery slopes, lovely wide pistes to practice on and much more once you’ve conquered the snowplough. "A friendly and traditional Swiss hotel"

Anne Moore, Aberdeen
4/ out of 5
The hotel was lovely, we liked it. It’s a nice, quaint, authentic Swiss hotel. The staff were very friendly and the food was good. There was a swimming pool with a view of the Matterhorn which was lovely. Our room was fine, it was at the back, I fancied a room at the front with a view really, but we were out most of the day anyway. You had to walk quite a way to get to the lifts, or there were shuttle buses around resort. Make sure you go up Gornergrat with the train while you are here, it’s the best ski area and the train ride is beautiful.
