The Hotel Alpenblick in Wilderswil is a slice of Swiss history, nestled in a traditional village near to Interlaken and the Jungfrau Ski Region. The Stöckli family have welcomed guests to their 400-year-old chalet, with its wooden balconies and shuttered windows, for over 60 years. It’s at the heart of village life too – locals gathered round the TV here in 1984 to watch Grindelwald skier Urs Räber win the World Cup men’s downhill – and there’s a room that bears his name in the hotel.
Step inside and you'll be wrapped in Swiss charm. Wooden beams, rugs and trinkets from the past create a cosy atmosphere, while old black-and-white photos of the mountains add to the authentic alpine feel. The bedrooms continue this theme with wood furnishings and panelling, though the bathrooms offer modern comforts. And let's not forget the views – from here, you can gaze out at the mighty Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks.
Food lovers are in for a treat at the Alpenblick. Head to the traditional Unspunnenstube restaurant for a cold buffet breakfast to start your day and a 5-course evening meal post-ski. Or if you fancy treating yourself, book a table at Richard Stöckli’s Michelin-starred Gourmet Restaurant Hotel Alpenblick, showcasing local ingredients. Expert sommelier Yvonne Stöckli looks after the wine cellar, so make sure you ask for the best wine to pair with your meal.
