The secret's been out for a while that Bulgaria, Slovenia and Romania have some super skiing spots. Balkan have become experts at supplying great value ski holidays to all three.

Balkan Holidays

These holidays allow you to ski a little ‘outside the box’ of the more common resorts in the Alps and for very attractive prices too - accommodation, lift tickets, lessons and après ski (from beers to activities) tend to be cheaper than you find in the bigger ski nations.

That doesn’t mean you get less when it comes to service or settings: one 5-star Bulgarian hotel belongs to the exclusive Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection and several properties overlook the magical Lake Bled in Slovenia.

Packages tend to be for 7 nights and include a choice of flights from several UK airports. Lift passes, ski packs and lessons can be pre-booked too.

These holidays are ATOL and ABTA protected.

Balkan Hotels

Hotels make up the bulk of Balkan’s offering and are generally booked for 7-nights on a half-board or bed and breakfast basis. Some people like the flexibility that comes with a B&B arrangement, as your ski days aren’t tied down by meal times. Others favour half-board for the simplicity (and often savings) that come from having suppers served moments from their room throughout the week.

Hotels with 4 and 5-star ratings could be just the ticket if you’re looking for some pampering - they often come with a pool, spa facilities and gourmet restaurants and cost what a 3-star package might in bigger skiing nations.

Balkan Apartments

Like with hotels, apartment packages are usually booked for 7 nights. These are excellent if you like complete flexibility when it comes to mealtimes, since most are sold on a self-catered basis. B&B upgrades and half-board packages are often available too if that suits you better. Look out for complexes with pools, cinema rooms and childcare facilities.

Balkan Deals

You might stumble across a ‘buy one get one free’ offer on lift passes, or ‘pre-book and save’ deals on ski lessons or ski hire packages from time to time. Some packages are reduced to fill empty hotel rooms / apartment units when the departure date is around the corner.
