Festivals and events in St Lucia in March

Gros Islet hosts the Friday Night Jump Up, a weekly street party that has taken place every Friday for the last 50 years. The event is great fun and safe; a welcoming, relaxed environment that starts slowly. We recommend strolling between the many stalls selling locally made crafts, food and drinks. Enjoy different types of delicious local food such as dahl, fish cakes, and grilled chicken, while sipping on a Piton. Later in the evening, the sound system ramps up and you can channel your inner dancing queen.

Top places to visit in St Lucia in March

No trip to the Caribbean is complete without experiencing the beaches that have enthralled travellers for centuries. St Lucia’s beaches are exceptional even by Caribbean standards, boasting the white sand, lush foliage and turquoise waters regularly featured on magazine covers. We recommend that you head to Laborie beach if you want to experience one of St Lucia’s best-kept secret beaches. Nestled in a reef lagoon near Soufriere, this beach rarely gets crowded and is home to the quaint, brilliant Salt Rush Café. Enjoy a rum punch and fish tacos while watching the sunset.

While January and February can get breezy, the wind is noticeably softer in March making it a great time to get onto the water. There are multiple operators providing affordable trips and one-day excursions to longer, pricier sailing charters. We recommend Sugar Boat Charters, where Soufriere local Captain Ted will take care of your every need. Their Sunset Tour is a great opportunity to cruise around the island while enjoying some fantastic appetisers, great drinks and music, before enjoying the glorious Caribbean sunset. Sugar Boat Charters also offer snorkelling cruises and if you’re lucky you may spot dolphins, rays, turtles, clownfish and more.

  • Pack light clothing, swimwear and shoes suited to a summer holiday.
  • Comfy, rubbed-soled shoes for excursions and light hikes or hiking boots for longer treks.
  • Sun cream is an integral part of a Caribbean packing list. Ensure that your sun cream is listed as reef-friendly – many commercially sold sun creams contain chemicals like oxybenzone which have been linked to coral bleaching.
  • Sunglasses and a hat.
  • A jumper or cardigan for the cooler evenings.
  • A smart outfit for the evening.
  • Mosquito repellent.
  • Travel plug adapter.
  • Prescription medicines.
  • Tote bag for shopping and to use as a beach bag.
  • Snorkelling gear if you wish to snorkel from the beach.
