On the second Monday in October, Bahamians celebrate National Heroes Day. This special day honours Bahamian national heroes from all walks of life. This was made a public holiday in 2013. Many locals spend the day with family and enjoy beach picnics with loved ones.

McLean’s Town Conch Cracking Festival comes to town in October. This event sees lots of conch-themed dishes, activities, locally made souvenirs, and a conch trophy for the winner crowned the Best Conch Cracker in the country!
