Easter traditions in Thailand

As you can probably guess, Easter in Thailand is not a very popular festival, as it is essentially a Christian celebration. However, some Thai Christian communities organise magnificent ceremonies at this magical time of year. Some churches organise prayers and hymns, and read Bible passages. Celebrations take place in major cities such as Bangkok and the Chaiya district.

One unique tradition is the national water fight, Songkran, for Thai Catholics during this period, where you will be blessed with good luck and fortune (unless you manage to stay dry). Locals douse themselves with water hoses, buckets or even water pistols - whatever's handy!

In any case, Easter in Thailand is an extraordinary time to visit. You can enjoy a succulent Thai Easter lunch or take a tour of the country's lush tropical islands.
