Verbier ski resort is part of the 4 Vallées Ski area, the largest linked area in Switzerland and one of the biggest in the world. There is a possible 15km trail with a massive 2500m skiable vertical, if Verbier snow conditions are right. If you are an advanced skier, ski Verbier for amazing opportunites available for the expert on and off piste. Particular interest points are the very bumpy Tortin snow bowl, the black slopes around Mont Gele that can scare the professionals, the runs down from Les Attelas and Ruinettes, couloirs extreme (!) and the infamous Gentianes. There is an abundance of blues and reds for intermediates to choose from, and beginners have pleasant slopes near the village to learn on. Verbier skiing has an advantage in that from the slopes around Nendaz and Veysonnaz, you run from all the highest peaks right down into the valley. Modernisation of some of the major lifts and the addition of some new ones, has increased the capacity and access to key routes, although there can still be queues. Verbier ski resort is also strong on mountaineering, being on the 6 day ski touring route, the Haute Route, between between Chamonix and Zermatt.
