Where better to spend this Christmas than in the chic Swiss resort of St. Moritz, with its unbeatable ski area, classy bars and shops, and beautiful lake-side setting. You can enjoy an unforgettable Christmas meal at one of the resort’s outstanding restaurants, which rival those in the big cities. We love the Michelin Starred Chesa Pirani for a traditional alpine-style atmosphere and delicious locally sourced ingredients. Most restaurants and hotels will put on special festive menus, and many hold galas and dances. Previous years have seen torch lit processions through the town and up the mountain, as well as a traditional Swiss Christmas market with stalls selling glühwein and local specialities.

Thanks to the resort’s high altitude, it’s a good bet for skiing this early in the year, with not one but two glacier ski areas to choose from up on Corvatsch and Diavolezza. The area is also renowned for its sunny climate, which is a welcome addition when skiing during the colder months. The runs are best suited to intermediates, but beginners will find plenty of nursery slopes in the different areas, with a lovely children’s park in Salastrains. Advanced skiers can challenge themselves on the black runs including the Olympia run, used in the Winter Olympics of 1928 and 1948.
