While neighbouring Kitzbühel can get very crowded over the festive period, Kirchberg is a quieter alternative, but still with plenty to do. Leading up to Christmas a number of events are organised by the village and in previous years has included a traditional Christmas market held in the village centre, where you can buy some wonderful gifts from homemade crafts to specialities such as gingerbread, fruit bread and roasted chestnuts. Santa Claus usually makes an appearance at the market too, which children will love. You might even be able to enjoy a concert or two at the village church before and after Christmas. Attempting the infamous Gaisberg toboggan run or sipping mulled wine as you take a sleigh ride through the forests are two of our favourite ‘winter wonderland’ activities. Alternatively, head to the bars in the village centre where you’re likely to find crowds of merry holidaymakers and locals. Many of the hotels host Christmas galas for their guests, which takes the turkey basting off your hands, letting you relax and enjoy good food and good company.
