Established in 1920 the Canadian ski resort Mont Tremblant lies at 265 metres altitude in the Québec region of the Canadian Laurentians / Laurentides. With the highest lifts and ski slopes at 914.5m Mont Tremblant ski area is not snow sure. Over 1037 snow cannons ensure artificial Mont Tremblant snow making covers ?km of ski trails, which equates to around 73 of the ski slopes. The Aquaclub, La Source, was completed in 1998 at a cost of $4 million (Canadian). Themed on a Laurentian lake, it includes a sub-tropical dome with baby pool, hot tub, water polo, bridges, rope swing and an outdoor area with diving pool and hot tub. The complex includes a state of the art health club. In common with many French resorts, but not North American ones, there is a cinema.
Outdoors a wide range of activities are on offer including the increasingly popular snowmobiling, dog sledding, snow-shoeing and sleigh rides, to less common ideas such as bird watching in the forest and deer observation. The large frozen pond at the base of the resort is machine groomed for ice skating.
