Established in ? the French ski resort Le Grand Bornand lies at 1000 metres altitude in the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps / Alpes. With the highest lifts and ski slopes at 2100m the area is not snow sure. Over 100 snow cannons ensure artificial snow making covers 18km of trails, which equates to around 20 of the slopes. The nearest airport transfer to Le Grand Bornand is Geneva / Geneve at a distance of 50km or approximately 80 minutes driving time. Their season runs from December to April.

Large, traditional French village 6km from La Clusaz with which it shares the Aravis Lift Pass. Apres ski is wide ranging with a discothèque and a large selection of eateries. The higher part of the resort is known as Chinaillon, located at 1300m and where most of the skiing starts. It is a "station" in its own right with loads of apartments and a few hotels. There are many shops and restaurants, bars and a discoteque. A bus links with the village of Le Grand Bornand. You can only ski down to Grand Bornand itself in very good snow conditions.

"Le Grand Bornand" by any other name

The French resort is also known as Les Aravis and has common misspellings:

The direction which the various Le Grand Bornand slopes face can make or break your ski holiday. To guarantee good snow conditions, choose a resort with piste which face the right way for the time of year you're travelling.

- In the coldest winter months of January and February pick a resort with sunny south facing slopes, so your days on the snow doesn't feel like a polar expedition. Conversely, in the warmest spring skiing months of March and especially April, a resort with cool and shady north facing trails will ensure you're not riding on slush, but benefitting from best late season snow. The best destinations have areas which face in all directions so that you're guaranteed greating conditions whatever the weather. Le Grand Bornand has slopes facing N - SW.
