Established in 1900 the Swiss ski resort Engelberg lies at 3020 metres altitude in the Central region of the Swiss Alps / Alpes. With the highest lifts and ski slopes above 2500m Engelberg ski area is snow sure. Over 20 snow cannons ensure artificial Engelberg snow making covers 32km of ski trails, which equates to around 40 of the ski slopes. The nearest airport transfer to Engelberg (Switzerland) is Zürich at a distance of 100km or approximately 104 minutes driving time. Engelberg ski season runs from November to May.

A historic isolated village which grew up around a Benedictine monastery (established in 1120). The monks brought skiing here early in the twentieth century . The Rotair, the world's first revolving cable car is here, as is the Titlis where the nearby Ice flyer 6 seater chair opened in 2000.

There is a major multi-sport facility on the edge of town, the Sporting Park Erlen, which includes two indoor tennis courts, ice rink, curling hall with three rinks, climbing wall, air rifle shooting, exercise and games machines and so on. The main public indoor swimming pool is the Sonnenberg. Sauna, solarium and massage are available at a number of locations. The Guest Card, available to visitors staying overnight, entitles users up to a 25% discount on these and other facilities. There is a 3.5km long toboggan Run from Gerschnialp (1300m) down to the resort is normally open daily and some evenings, or there are two other shorter toboggan runs on Brunni and Fürenalp. Paragliding is also offered. Sleigh rides can be booked, with collection from your hotel and there are 36km of cleared winter trails. There is also a museum of life in the valley and it's possible to tour the monastery. Excursions to the nearby city of Lucerne (30 minute drive / 1 hour by train) are popular.
