A great way to explore the natural world and mountain culture of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest is to join a Forest Host for a free 45 minute guided tour down friendly terrain. Tours are held on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Exum Utah Mountain Adventures is a year-round climbing and backcountry skiing guide service with an instructional emphasis. Exum Utah Mountain Adventures is the only active guide service authorized to operate within the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The guides are highly experienced climbers and skiers who are specifically trained to guide.
Wasatch Powderbird Guides will take you to the best powder on the mountain. Accomplished recreational skiers with even limited powder experience can enjoy the Greatest Snow on Earth. Guests are grouped by ability, interest and physical condition to ensure compatibility. Ski Utah offers the advanced skier a unique opportunity to ski five ski areas in a single day. Five resorts are interconnected by back country routes offering some of the most breathtaking scenery in the entire Wasatch range.
The Snowflake Festival takes place in January and provides activities for employees and residents of Alta. Activities include a snow sculpture contest, a blood drive, volleyball tournament, golf tournament, skate race, hole in one golf tournament, tuck, ride and run race, fly casting contest and a bar-b-que to benefit the Alta Fire Departmet.

On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, weather permitting, Alta has a torchlight parade in which visitors may participate. On Fridays and Saturdays throughout the season, weather and conditions permitting, you could race against your friends on the Race Hill. Based on a standard age-group format, your run is compared to the pacesetter's time with Alta pins awarded to all racers.
During the winter ski season Father John Norman holds Catholic Mass every Sunday at Our Lady of the Snows Centre. Additionally, various visiting ministers hold special inter-faith services on selected Saturdays throughout the season. All are welcome.
Alta Council for the Arts is a volunteer organisation that creates opportunities for individual and group participation in community enrichment, education, arts and special events. While formed to offer programmes and opportunities for the local community, visitors to the Alta area are welcome to enjoy the many activities which may include movies, art shows and workshops.

- In the coldest winter months of January and February you need a ski resort with some sunny south facing ski slopes, so your days on the snow doesn't feel like a polar expedition. Conversely, in the warmest spring skiing months of March and especially April, a ski resort with some cool and shady north facing slopes will ensure you're not skiing on slush, but benefitting from best late season snow.
